In the small town of Siena, a young woman named Catherine sought answers about eternity. Her fervent prayers and dedication to the Lord led her to experience divine revelations that forever changed her life. As she meditated in her room, she was granted a vision of the eternal realms - heaven and hell.
The first vision she received was of the harrowing depths of hell. God the Father spoke to St. Catherine, describing the four principal torments that the souls in hell endured. In this dark and desolate place, the damned suffered from the eternal deprivation of God's presence. They faced the relentless gnawing of their conscience, a reminder of their sinful choices. Their third torment was the horrifying sight of the devil, far more dreadful than any human could ever imagine. Lastly, they were subjected to the unquenchable flames of hell, a fire that burned without ever consuming them.
As St. Catherine listened to God's description, her heart ached for the souls who had chosen this eternity without God. The depth of their pain and suffering was unimaginable, and she wept for their eternal torment.
But soon, the vision changed, and she was shown the breathtaking beauty of heaven. Eternity with God presented an entirely different experience. In this realm, the just souls rejoiced and exulted in their Creator's presence. They were filled with insatiable love and delight, their hearts swelling with the joy of knowing and loving God. The heavenly beings celebrated the goodness of their fellow souls and rejoiced in the presence of angels and saints.
St. Catherine saw the eternal bonds of love that persisted between souls who had shared a special love on earth, and how this love now contributed to the happiness of all in heaven. These souls were in perfect unity with God, their desires aligned with His divine will.
As the visions faded, St. Catherine was left with an overwhelming sense of the stark contrast between eternity with and without God. She knew that she had a mission to share these divine revelations with others, to guide them on the path of righteousness and help them choose a life that would lead to eternal joy.
From that day forward, St. Catherine of Siena dedicated herself to spreading the message of God's love and the importance of choosing a life that would lead to eternal happiness with Him. Her visions of heaven and hell served as a constant reminder of the eternal consequences of each person's choices, inspiring her to live a life devoted to guiding others toward the embrace of their loving Creator.
There's always that underlying hope that wide voices such as @ScottAdamsSays have a sounder understanding of "with great power comes great reponsibility".
