because based on their understanding, embracing Christianity would mean accepting oppressive patriarchial standards. As a Christian who is also a feminist, I've come to understand that God ’s standards with respect to equality are clear and have been from the beginning.

The bible is conceived in patriarchal terms which is reflective of the times and the viewpoint of the men who wrote them. As a result, many Christians oppose feminism because they believe it goes against Christian values. Likewise, a lot of feminists have denounced Christianity

And yes, the economic impact on businesses was raised and I do agree, there must be a balance. Given the amount of ridiculous things included in most government budgets, I have no doubt that an arrangement can be worked out between the public/private sectors to make it happen.

My post on maternity leave yesterday led to a series of very informative conversations with some amazing women and I'm going to try my best to summarize while sharing my views too.

If the increasing cases of post-partum depression isn't enough to get the conversation going, look to the situation in several Scandinavian and EU countries. It's far easier to be proactive now than to deal with the impact of low fertility rates on any country's economy.
