@JaimeB88598183@sfchronicle Facts - 1. It's extremely dangerous & teens are among its victims. 2. Rainbow fentanyl been here at least 2 years. 3. No evidence the coloring is to make it more appealing to kids. Teens who use don't because of that. 4. No evidence small kids find it on street & eat like candy.
@JaimeB88598183@sfchronicle If you use google as an inherently reliable research tool, you'll find articles about cops OD'ing from touching it, razor blades in candy, the stolen 2020 election, QANON, the "hoax" of climate change... too. She's the DA. She shouldn't spread myths. Thx for the civil exchange!
@JaimeB88598183@sfchronicle Absolutely warn about actual risks.. to kids, to everyone else. But there's no credible evidence - none - that "rainbow" fentanyl is an attempt to market the drug to kids. This follows on the crazy myth that cops were OD'ing merely from touching the stuff. Not true. Doesn't help.
@JaimeB88598183@sfchronicle ANYTHING is theoretically possible. It's theoretically possible there are razor blades in Halloween candy. But a DA speaking at a press conference about an extremely serious topic should stick to solid facts backed by evidence not theoretically possible myths widely debunked.
@Twolfrecovery You're ducking my Q. If other people share the blame (even if you think Chesa is somehow STILL the "main guy" responsible 4 months post-recall) why won't you name ANY of them? If others are not blameless & if you, of all people, won't hold 'em accountable how will they do better?
@JaimeB88598183@sfchronicle No, I worry about the credibility of the Interim DA & public officials who prioritize their political messaging over candor & effective, practical strategies for dealing with a very serious problem. Politicized law enforcement loses credibility.. which undermines effectiveness.
@Twolfrecovery Fence when up today cause it was needed today. YOU said "blame the people that let things get so bad that (it's) needed." Yet, the ONLY person you're willing to blame is someone who was recalled 4 long months ago! Everyone else w/ power, direct roles, $ & influence is blameless?
@JaimeB88598183@sfchronicle Fentanyl is awful. That's why it's dangerous for a DA to lose credibility by spreading debunked myths about it. There's no need to exaggerate like she did requiring a "Here Are the Facts" follow-up story. Read the story & this one too. Credibility is key! https://t.co/VMkcevTtHZ
@mallorymoench@arielboone WashPo too. Jenkins is fear-mongering. "It’s a variant of the “dealers are giving out drugs packaged as Halloween candy” urban legend, one that similarly makes little sense upon even passing consideration. The “rainbow fentanyl” scare is similar in..."1/x https://t.co/N3UdrqtAJb
@GenusGreta@Twolfrecovery None of the people you mention control or have influence over SFPD strategies & actions.. & inaction. Mayor does. Int DA does. Chief does. Mayor's loyal police commissioners do. Blame people? Sure. But blame those with the legal responsibility & practical ability to fix it.
@GenusGreta@Twolfrecovery Fence went up today. SFPD is responsible. With more effective strategies & an actual commitment to their job, this would not have been necessary. Blaming the political rhetoric - the "narrative" - for cops not doing their jobs long after the DA they hated is gone enables them.
@Twolfrecovery Fence went up today. So you're blaming Chesa recalled four months ago for the failure of SFPD to deal more effectively w/ this since then? How long are you planning to blame someone who's already gone? You told me awhile back you'd hold SFPD accountable. Not seeing it so far....
@GenusGreta@Twolfrecovery Boudin recalled four months ago. Dorsey in office for five months. Jenkins in office for three months. Fence went up today. The folks you mentioned have been pushing SFPD to do better. Dorsey & Jenkins won't even criticize 'em (cause they are politically beholden to them).
@BrookeJenkinsSF@JoeBiden Need to be reminded of SFPOA's long-standing, ugly role in defending the indefensible & in ensuring SFPD remains in the dark ages when it comes to modern policing practices? Read this. These officials kept their word to not take SFPOA $. Why not you? 2/2 https://t.co/91fVK9Jt7Y
@BrookeJenkinsSF@JoeBiden OK, if you're gonna applaud the Prez for keeping his word, how bout you start keeping yours? You recently claimed you'd not accept $ from SFPOA but campaign filings show you, in fact, took a max $500 contribution from the SFPOA president. Why is candor such a problem for you? 1/x
@gilduran76 If she hadn't been ducking even meeting with drug policy & criminal justice experts from day one, maybe she wouldn't consistently make such stupid & ridiculously exaggerated claims. If you painstakingly avoid expertise, then you freely spew falsehoods. https://t.co/FqvQkf0oQv
So, @BrookeJenkinsSF says she supports criminal justice reform.
But for two months she has stonewalled and avoided the policy experts who, for years, have led reform efforts in San Francisco.
It makes you wonder...
@jonahowenlamb "The chief confirmed (Wed.) that he had rec'd the request from POST, but said it was part of the state agency’s usual review of his dept. On Thurs., SFPD did not elaborate further on whether the POST’s audit was indeed routine...." Geez, SFPD, just be fully candid & transparent!
When Supervisor Matt Dorsey was Dir of Comms for SFPD he pushed the city to support a propaganda film called “The Real Streets on San Francisco” to be made by the director of CIA propaganda films.
@FitzTheReporter@KQED@LondonBreed Wait. The *City Attorney* she appointed who told her 10 days ago in no uncertain terms it was unlawful for her to try this w/ the Police Comm "just wants to mess w/" her? The Police Comm'er who refused to lie for her (per texts) just wants to mess w/ her? https://t.co/AhaBK9NPGn
@FitzTheReporter@scottshafer Wow. Really outrageous. Based on best practices recommendation from Controller, voters amended charter 20 years ago to make Police Comm ind.. & NOT controlled by mayor. City Attorney opinion just last week made that crystal, f'in clear. 9 days later, Mayor Breed pretends ... 1/x
@_ericting "Jenkins is beholden to the mayor..city corruption won’t be taken seriously. One of the 1st things she did was gut the political corruption unit.. (She's) afraid to hold the mayor accountable... (S)he has a problem with the truth. I saw the innerworkings of the recall campaign.."
