I missed one phone call at work. By the time I called back, my entire apartment had been emptied.

I thought it was a scam at first. My landlord's voicemail said there had been a "misunderstanding" with the unit and asked me to call immediately. When I got home, the locks had been changed.

Everything I owned was gone. Furniture, Clothes, Family photos, My late mother's jewellery. Even the food in my fridge.

The property manager insisted I had been evicted. I told him he had the wrong tenant.

He didn't believe me until I showed him my driver's licence and the lease with my name on it.

It turned out another tenant in the building had the same last name as me. They were the ones who had been evicted. The removal company had emptied my apartment instead.

Finding my belongings became a nightmare. Some boxes had already been taken to storage. Others had been thrown into a disposal container because workers assumed they were abandoned. A few valuables were never recovered.

The management company apologised over and over, but apologies didn't bring back the things that couldn't be.......
