The flight departed SWF after about 2 hours on the ground and is now at EWR. #UAL85

#UAL85 TLV-EWR diverted to SWF earlier this evening after encountering severe or extreme turbulence on approach to EWR.

Injuries to those on board were evaluated at SWF and a number of
individuals were treated on scene or at local hospitals.

@9Joe9 Per local scanner, it hit severe turbulence on approach. Diverted to SWF and was met by Air Guard Fire (they handle all ARFF duties there for both civil and military aviation). Initially labeled a mass casualty incident due to the number of passengers onboard.
