@Sudhirntv It's so sad how things happen in UG
@UCC_Official promised the you entrepreneurs a license but behind their back arrests ,crackdown happened in the time frame given
So it was all lies
Tears in my mother Land
Why would the UCC arrest young men and women trying to make a living by operating small WiFi businesses? First, they buy data from providers who pay taxes, and they sell Internet to people who can't afford the expensive data bundles offered by telecoms. How is this helping digital integration? Do you have clear regulations for this mushrooming business? @UCC_Official

Reports indicate people moving around Kampala with Police, confiscating hotspot equipment while claiming to be from Government. We have seen no official UCC notice. Please clarify and support affected young operators. #ICT#DigitalUga
🇺🇬 A HUMBLE APPEAL TO GENERAL MUHOOZI KAINERUGABA — CDF OF UGANDA
Dear General Muhoozi Kainerugaba,
We respectfully appeal to you to look into the situation facing thousands of young Ugandans who are trying to survive through the hotspot and internet business.
These are not criminals. They are young innovators, entrepreneurs and technology enthusiasts who have created small businesses around internet connectivity because they want to earn a living, support their families and contribute to Uganda’s digital economy.
According to our community, more than 3,000 young people could potentially lose their source of income and jobs if the current situation surrounding the hotspot business is not addressed.
For many of us, this is not just a business. It is our livelihood.
We respectfully ask you, General, to listen to the voices of these young innovators before livelihoods are destroyed. Instead of seeing us as a problem, we ask that you see us as young Ugandans who are trying to build something with the little opportunities available to us.
We also want to state clearly that many of these young people have supported and identified with the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) and the vision associated with your leadership. We therefore believe that our concerns deserve to be heard and given a fair opportunity for dialogue.
Your own public initiatives have highlighted the importance of supporting young people, including through the MK Fund, which has identified urban youth and ICT among areas for support. (UPDF)
General, we are asking for dialogue — not confrontation.
Give us an opportunity to sit down with the relevant authorities, explain our businesses, present our concerns and find a lawful solution that protects both the interests of the country and the livelihoods of thousands of young Ugandans.
We believe that Uganda’s youth should be part of the solution.
We are ready to regulate.
We are ready to comply with reasonable requirements.
We are ready to work with government.
We simply ask not to be pushed out of our livelihoods without being heard.
🇺🇬 GENERAL MUHOOZI, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE YOUTH.
More than 3,000 young livelihoods are at stake. @mkainerugaba@BalaamBarugahar@DaudiKabanda@MwesigyeFranks@RobinahNabbanja@UCC_ED
