Question: You're a pragmatist, I think, as a leader, but what I also notice is you're an optimist. What keeps you optimistic, because we've listed a whole list of challenges already today?
H.E President Paul Kagame:
“Well, I start with knowing where I have come from as a person and my country. You also understand that the same weaknesses or failures that create such tragedies, like my own faced in a country of genocide, there are people behind that. There is politics behind that.
But in the recovery and where we are today, you know that there are also people who can do good things and who can refuse to be crushed by the weight of these problems and imagine, deal with them and look for a better future, as has happened in our case.
Change is possible. I think that's the message. Change is possible.”

While most Zimbabweans were focused on the death of Wicknell Chivayo in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, South African-based local businessman Lawrence Chamurwa Mudzinganyama was granted R15 000 bail by the Randburg Magistrates Court on the same day following a formal court appearance.
The disgraced Mudzinganyama, who has lost everything over his unwanted sexual advances and aggression within a short space of time, is facing multiple charges following his threats to kill a woman who had rejected his sexual advances recently.
The charges stem from a viral social media video recorded on September 18 at the Vlamo Restaurant at Sandton Gate Central shopping centre along Winne Mandela Drive in Sandton, Johannesburg.
In the footage, Mudzinganyama is seen inside the ladies' powder room aggressively confronting a group of women, demanding to take a photograph of one of them, and threatening to murder the one who rejected his request for a phone number.
While he was initially released on a police warning following his arrest on September 20, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) successfully applied to override the warning with cash bail.
He now faces 10 criminal charges, which include:
🔴three counts of intimidation;
🔴three counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm;
🔴three counts of crimen injuria;
🔴one count of fraud (reportedly linked to a false claim that he owned the restaurant).
The court restricted Mudzinganyama’s movement as part of his bail conditions.
He has surrendered his passport and travel documents, is legally barred from leaving Gauteng, and must report weekly to the Randburg Police Station, while he is explicitly prohibited from contacting or interfering with any witnesses or restaurant staff.
The matter has been postponed to October 15 to facilitate the transfer of the case file to the regional court.
The NPA noted that further charges may still be added as the investigation wraps up.
•Beyond criminal prosecution, three government ministers have ordered high-level investigations into Mudzinganyama's infrastructure business, Moriel Infrastructure Group, regarding its state tenders and compliance metrics.
The company has since stripped him of his directorship and executive roles, while Steyn City has formally terminated his residential lease.
Mudzinganyama has issued a public apology calling his actions "unacceptable and unjustifiable".
