I won’t lie, Kenya shocked me.

Women here don’t obsess over wigs.
Like… at all.

Braids.
Natural hair.
Simple and done.

I mentioned braided wigs to someone and she looked at me like, “Why would I stress myself like that?”

And I realized how much pressure we normalize back home without questioning it.

Being in Kenya made something click for me.

Women here don’t look like they’re constantly performing.
No over-fixing.
No over-explaining.
No proving anything.

Then it hit me:
Most of us aren’t maintaining beauty.
We’re maintaining expectations.

Big difference.

Throughout my almost two weeks stay, I never saw any one of them with any wigs or hair extensions.
They are 100% natural, and they’re so beautiful without even doing too much.

Everyone I saw who had makeup on was visiting

Another crazy thing I discovered in Kenya:

People don’t FEAR anybody.

They will talk back.
They will stand their ground.
They don’t shrink because you’re loud or “important.”

Where I’m from, fear is baked into daily life. You’re trained to lower your voice before you even know if you’re wrong.

That difference changes a nation.
