conservation volunteer in London/Surrey & Aberystwyth, plant biologist (MRes biosciences, distinction @aberuni) 🌱🌳🍃
often found peering at Sphagnum moss
The botany gardens @AberUni are part of what drew me to Aberystwyth, and are my favourite part of the Penglais campus. Their closure would be a tragedy and reduce the quality of learning experience for future plant biology students @AberDLSAGB https://t.co/2Xx4XWfpar
Canu gwasael yng Ngogerddan!
Wassailing at Gogerddan yesterday, honouring the apple trees with song and cider. With thanks to @o__olver and ACV

I had such a fun day planting sphagnum! It was really interesting seeing the mix of species being planted and I'm excited to see how well it survives and spreads!
Thank you to the big group that came together on Saturday to plant sphagnum plugs on our peatland.
This work is essential as peatland in good condition is an excellent carbon store, is vital for biodiversity and is able to prevent flooding.
To celebrate #BogDay here's a #sphagnum I knitted recently as a gift! Turns out, as well as being super important in bogs, Sphagnum is a really fun plant to knit!
Digging up orchids is bad, however when your grandmother's house and garden have been sold to a developer then it seems they have more of a chance being dug up from the lawn than being left #30DaysWild
My brain seems to attach memories to plants and whenever I see these ones I think of a particular place, I hope these plants continue to take me back there every time I see them #30DaysWild
My grandads front garden was buzzing today, probably not as much as it should be, but I was happy to see the bees enjoying the flowers nonetheless #30DaysWild
Today I took a box of surplus lab sphagnum (and a small giant redwood) all the way from Aberystwyth to London on many trains. Definitely got some curious looks! #30DaysWild
Couldn't find the bee orchid but saw lots of other nice plants of the Ynyslas dunes today #30DaysWild also heard a cuckoo, and saw my first ever wild snake (except it was dead having been run over crossing the road 😭)
I can highly recommend the routes round Penparcau! @acvsociety were lucky enough to be tasked with waymarking them, and the two longest were such good walks that I wouldn't have known existed otherwise!

Not a cheerful #30DaysWild today, because Aberystwyth is very smokey this evening due to a fire in Penglais woods. I smelt of smoke after a tiny walk to the sea. A reminder to not start fires or litter (esp glass), and to do something about the climate crisis
