Having served as a Member of Parliament (2020–2025), a Member of the Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Group to the United Nations Secretary General on Internet Governance #MAG (2022-2024), and as the Founder & Chair of the African Parliamentary Network on Internet Governance #APNIG, I call for the urgent and FULL restoration of internet access for all in #Tanzania.
The internet is not just a communication tool; it is a lifeline for work, education, health, business, services and daily life.
I therefore refer back to my plea of 28/9/2023 made whilst serving as an MP at the Forum on Internet Freedom in Africa 2023 that took place in #Tanzania.
The Constitution firmly established the right to privacy in #Botswana in 1966, which explicitly prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures of property and persons without a warrant.
In addition to this constitutional protection, #Botswana introduced the Data Protection Act in 2018 to regulate how personal data is handled and ensure individuals' privacy is protected.
While Botswana has taken steps to safeguard privacy rights through various measures, including the Data Protection Act, there remains a gap in the legal framework concerning surveillance practices by law enforcement agencies.
