Councillor Jasvir Chohan was elected to the position of Mayor of Oadby & Wigston for the municipal year 2025-26 at the council's Annual General Meeting last night.
The non-political role of mayor is ceremonial, with the mayor acting as First Citizen of Oadby & Wigston and representing the council at events and civic functions.
Councillor Chohan said: “It is a pleasure to be elected to the position of Mayor, and it is an honour to represent the diverse community of people from so many different backgrounds and ethnicities who make up Oadby & Wigston.
“Throughout my term I will also be raising money for two charities who do fantastic work, the Rotary Club of Oadby – Memory Café and The Air Ambulance Service.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our outgoing mayor, Cllr Clare Kozlowski, for the last year. Her dedication and professionalism in the role is admirable, and I look forward to continuing in her footsteps.”
