@yst0M@callmebymynang@bruhbrahcool@_reductio_@realcouri Even the simplest statement can be turned against you. Innocent people get convicted or get money judgments against them all the time. The job of the prosecutor is to CONVICT. The best thing to do when even under threats of being sued is to SHUT UP & Let your Lawyer handle it.
@ringwiss it looks increasingly likely they won't pass an NDAA this year. What are some other historical times where Congress failed to pass an NDAA by Dec. 31 (or so)?
@ringwiss Perry dropped all of his amendments and aside from the UN Amendment, Roy/Crane/Cammack dropped all of their controversial amendments, so it didn't really matter anyways.
@JakeSherman Honestly, I could see the House leaving earlier than scheduled for its August Recess and just not coming back at all until after the midterms. What's the point of continually flying people across the country if Luna doesn't stand down? Pass a CR and call it good.
@ringwiss@JakeSherman If Luna holds firm, Johnson has a bunch of bad options:
1. Do exactly as she demands - becoming her slave
2. Work with Democrats to pass rules - the base would hate this
3. Send Congress into recess until 2027
- causes a government shutdown
4. Resign
@ringwiss Foxx did seem to suggest during the NDAA meeting that her amendment #512, which McGovern(!) made in order in 2022, was not germane. However, the report in question doesn't mention a waiver for it...
@ringwiss Making amendments in order has been unusually low this congress. Only 14% of rules have been structured, compared to 42% being structured or modified-open just last congress. Foxx really has a unique love for the closed rule.
@ringwiss Are you able to figure out the last time the rules committee did as Luna asks - Made in order (NOT MIRV, NOT 'considered as adopted') an amendment that, under an open rule, would be subject to a point of order?
@ringwiss They seem to have decided that "district work periods" do not count as a legislative day for any meaningful purpose, even if that's not technically the case. Also, I seem to remember the 115th Congress postponing the motion to reconsider the Farm Bill for a really long time....
@ringwiss Luna wanted her amendment made in order and voted on, not simply "considered as adopted".
There's also the issue that rejecting the PQ lets McGovern literally offer *anything*. It becomes his hour and he chooses what to offer. He could make Rs take whatever tough vote he wants.
@JakeSherman@RepLuna Johnson's refusal to allow open debate is just stunning. He should let the House work its will. Pelosi made over 2,500 amendments in order each congress, Johnson hasn't even crossed the 1,000 mark yet. I agree with @realannapaulina , shut it down until we can actually debate!
@ringwiss They made the en bloc process so laborious that it's not worth doing routinely. Takes nearly 2 full (4-day) weeks to use it if all debate time is used.
@ringwiss@scottwongDC I guess since Johnson put "district work periods" into the actual house rules rather than having the rules committee pass special authorities manually, they don't.
@JakeSherman This is the result of doing everything under a closed rule. Yes, it streamlines Johnson's daily devotionals to the Freedom Caucus, but it also means concerns like this can't be addressed on the floor and bills that would have found a way forward in times past have to be pulled.
