Future will remember who was at the helm when India’s air combat force went to its lowest even when they were in power for more than a decade.
Future will remember who was at the helm when R&D funding as a % of GDP fell during economic booming years.

And all this while cancelling PAK-FA while not funding AMCA and cancelling MMRCA for 36 Rafales while not following through on additional fighters.

Behind Modi rhetoric of a muscular defense strategy, fact is Modi hugely underspent on defense for most of his two terms. It was a reckless and hopeful gamble and it has failed spectacularly.
Defense capex as % of GDP actually dipped during Modi-1&2 vs UPA (which itself was low)
