A woman in my aunt's neighborhood pass£d away at 82. She lived alone, never married, never had children, and rarely spoke to anyone.
Most people thought she was lonely.
After her funeral, a lawyer arrived with a locked box and a letter she had left behind.
The letter began:
"If you're reading this, it means I've been keeping a secret for over 50 years."
Everyone expected a confession.
At 23, with no prior experience, I turned this dilapidated building into Nigeria’s first offgrid hospital.
Here’s how (5 principles) 🧵:
📍 Enugu, Nigeria
Nigeria steadily killing Nigerians
Not like she didn't have money for hospital bill o, na them no get anti venom
Yet Wenenda and Sotonye dey beef themselves bcuz of SIM and WIKE
E no go better for who do us this thing
I hear she took herself to two separate hospitals and got turned back because they didn't have anti-venom
imagine knowing you have venom inside you, increasingly feeling all the effects of that, knowing there's a ticking clock before you start losing consciousness and desperately going to hospitals to seek help only to be told they can't help you
what a tragic horrifying way to die.
such an unnecessary death! this is so sad

In 2010, a friend was getting married. Those of us who attended the same university with him attended.
The engagement was on Friday evening, while the main wedding was on Saturday.
We got to the engagement, and the mother of the bride began to berate her husband in front of everybody because his tailor failed to deliver their matching attire on time for the occasion.
The husband's younger sister was fuming while this went on; everybody told the mother of the bride to calm down and let the event continue in peace.
This woman, however, was very angry and wouldn't keep quiet.
Suddenly, the husband's younger sister screamed.
"You want the devil to use you to do what they did to me during my engagement that didn't allow me to get married till today. You are the mother of the bride; you are supposed to be the one to keep quiet and not ruin your daughter's wedding."
The wife heard this and calmed down immediately
A few minutes later, the tailor arrived, and the woman's husband quickly went to change while the singers sang.
The engagement went on, and it was glorious.
The next morning, we were told the wedding had been postponed.
What happened?
After the engagement, the bride's family was supposed to share the engagement items presented by the husband's family
The bride's mother was the one solely responsible for the gift presented by the bride to the husband's family, and she felt that since the family did not contribute to the items she bought, they shouldn't share in the items brought by the groom
It degenerated into an argument, and the husband's family insisted they would not be a party to the event as long as the mother of the bride refused to apologise
for calling them irresponsible.
The bride's mother refused to apologise, and the groom's family refused to attend the wedding or give their blessings
The husband tried to placate them, but they refused to listen to him
He told his wife that the wedding cannot proceed without their blessing
The mother of the bride had always been financially responsible for the family. She felt that, as a couple, with support from the church and her family, they should be able to do the wedding, but the man insisted it must be cancelled until the family rift heals.
The wedding was postponed, and months later, the groom got married to another person.
This event happened in FESTAC, November 2010.
