I honestly can’t believe I’m making this post. Jeff has been missing since October 16th, 2025, along the Owerri–Imo axis.

He was reportedly kidnapped, and after ransom was paid, contact was lost. Since then, no one has heard from him or been able to trace his whereabouts.

Jeff is one of the most genuine and hardworking people I know always cheerful, kind, and passionate about his work. It’s heartbreaking that he’s going through this, and we’re all praying for his safe return.

While even I may benefit, I recognize that the prevailing Twitter/X payment plan on impressions alone risks pathologizing the platform - where people will say any and every outrageous thing for views.

It also risks diluting real grievances, as envisioned in Black Mirror, Season 1, episode 2, "Fifteen Million Merits.": Where we - consciously and subconsciously - become indifferent to credible plights and reduce every critical discussion to content.

Admittedly, this trend did not start with Twitter/X; but unlike other platforms, Twitter/X was predominantly a discourse hub. With the influx of sensationalism, it will be reasonably harder to trace critical discussions - and, thus, build meaningful connections/networks, if any network at all.

When you financially incentivize voice on its magnitude alone, you neuter thought. You render everything and everyone expendable - as thought becomes an afterthought.

And so, in 20 to 30 years, we are likely to end up with a society of zombified war-mongers and consummate pornographers whose only claim to relevance is the noise they make rather than the content of their plights, thought, or ambition.

This is not an attempt at gatekeeping; people should be paid for their craft. But we need to reconceptualize the meaning of craft/content or risk the death of society - where nothing is sacred or private. Where every little, intimate human experience is a product for sale.

No longer a people, but goods on a shelf.
