Northern community leaders in Anambra State have rejected allegations that former Governor Peter Obi profiled Hausa and northern residents or discriminated against them during his tenure, describing the claims as politically motivated.

Speaking in Awka and Onitsha, community leaders said Obi maintained cordial relations with northern residents and supported them through free education, agricultural loans and sponsorship for Hajj. They also dismissed claims that he demolished a mosque, explaining that the mosque was destroyed during a reprisal linked to the 2006 Sharia crisis, before Obi assumed office.

The leaders cited personal experiences, including beneficiaries of agricultural loans and free education, as evidence that Obi’s policies were not discriminatory. They said their communities enjoyed equal treatment under his administration and pledged to mobilise northern residents in Anambra to support his 2027 presidential bid.
