Today, I had the honour of commissioning the upgraded National Seismic Monitoring Network of Ghana at the National Seismological Observatory.
This modernized network marks a significant milestone in our collective efforts to strengthen earthquake monitoring, disaster risk reduction, infrastructure resilience, and public safety across the country.

Ghana has a real and documented history of seismic activity, with destructive earthquakes recorded as far back as 1636.
For too long, only 2 of our 21 monitoring stations were functional.
Today, 20 of those 21 stations are fully upgraded and now actively transmitting continuous, real-time seismic data.

The new network incorporates state-of-the-art broadband seismometers, solar-powered remote stations, advanced telemetry systems, and modern data processing platforms to better safeguard lives and protect national infrastructure.

I would like to commend the Ghana Geological Survey Authority, Nanometrics Incorporated of Canada, Geo-Tech Systems, the Volta River Authority, and all partners whose dedication made this possible.
