@McCurdy1987@BruceMcCurdy So sorry for your loss Kevin. He seemed like a very wonderful man and I could tell from your podcast conversations that you were very close.

“Narcotic Transition Services…creates a paradoxical situation where patients are required to fail to achieve clinical stability on OAT to access potentially more effective medications, only to be transitioned back to the previously ineffective therapies as soon as possible”
Alberta’s ban on safer supply undermines personal freedom and restricts evidence-based healthcare.

“Regulating drugs is not a radical idea. Governments regulate things all the time. That is government’s job to regulate products so that they are safe. It is irresponsible to allow thousands of people to die across our country without stepping in.” -LL https://t.co/RPiiCUsUId
I can now supervise students (Community Health Science, @UCalgary )! I'm looking for Masters or PhD students interested in understanding the substance use treatment system. We will work with PWLE to explain what administrative data shows is happening.
@FARCANADA Hi @FARCANADA, just wanted to clarify that the premier of BC is proposing is expanding involuntary treatment for adults. The UN working group I was quoting was calling for the end of compulsory drug treatment for adults on human rights grounds.
Confining people for drug use treatment is incompatible with international human rights standards. We need more voluntary care to address overdose and addiction in Canada, not coercion.
Confining people against their will due to their difficult relationship with drug use is incompatible with intn'l human rights standards
Sad to see people's lives & rights put at risk for electoral gain.

New study! Youth cannabis use research typically focusses on harms. However, when we talked to youth about their cannabis use, their perspectives were much more nuanced.

Our study out today in @ijdrugpolicy shows shifting patterns of substance use in Ontario - moving away from injection towards inhalation. These patterns are seen across Canada, and speak to the urgent need for integration of inhalation services in #SCS. https://t.co/WMjePOwqy0
Health Canada says it has written to Alberta officials to inform them that the ability for patients "to purchase preferential access" at a Calgary clinic runs contrary to the Canada Health Act. https://t.co/bTbxaXYVPN
The AB Health Insurance Act expressly prohibits extra billing for insured health care.

Just released: Rapid Review of Evidence on Safer Opioid Supply Programs. The evidence around #SOS is growing every day - if you can’t keep up - we’ve summarized the existing research here: https://t.co/BiNBzjuVJE
BC Coroner reports 75% of youth deaths involve fentanyl/stimulants. All youth deaths involve multiple drugs. ZERO deaths occur in which only hydromorphone is present.
From these stats (saying fent is killing youth) Elenore condemns prescribed, regulated opioids (Hydromorph). 🤥
