It’s amazing to me that the two Pakistanis I like listening to the most are ‘molvis’: Ghamidi sb and Ahmed Javaid sb. I think the reason is that in Pakistan the only field that allows you the possibility of real depth is religion, which in Ahmad Javaid sb’s case has also extended to Literature. He is a tad long winded aur laffaazi mayn kuch zyaada ulajh jaatay hayn, but it’s only this Off The School Podcast that offers any literary depth in the Pakistani media landscape.
Comparing and contrasting the right wing styles of OTS and EON (both right wing podcasts) is also an interesting study. OTS represents these actually parhay likhay guys, deep into Indo-Pak Muslim Tehzeeb (of which religion is one part). EON, otoh, represent the ugly side of religion — identity politics, chest thumping, us versus them mindset.
