Back of my business card. My starting (& ending) point for politicians I choose to support. I hope to have many enlightening conversations on related issues as we move forward seeking a Western Alliance, strong, principled & working diligently in the best interests of Westerners.
The presumption of innocence is a foundational Western legal principle, rooted in Roman law, centuries of common law tradition, and Christian concepts of justice. It stands as one of the most critical safeguards of individual liberty and is a bedrock Canadian value.
To cast it aside for partisan advantage, as Jennifer Whiteside and the NDP are doing, is shameful and dangerous. It replaces the rule of law with the rule of the mob and trial by media.
Jordan Kealy, like every Canadian, is entitled to the presumption of innocence and his day in court. Anything less betrays the principles that make Canada a free and just society.
While I will not pass judgement on any accused until facts are known & a court establishes guilt or innocence, I find it abhorrent that Caroline Elliott’s failed campaign team is still attacking political adversaries online. Koch is borderline libelous, IMHO.
While David Eby tries to label me, our record shows something very different.
I served on the federal National Shipbuilding Procurement Ministerial Committee, where we worked to expand Canadian shipbuilding and create jobs here at home.
Under David Eby and the NDP, over a billion dollars in BC Ferries shipbuilding contracts were awarded to foreign shipyards overseas, sending jobs and economic benefits out of British Columbia.
They can keep the labels. I’ll focus on results.
West & Petit make compelling, realistic assessments of the issues facing not only BC but throughout a Western Civilization that became complacent, apathetic & inexplicably, afraid to face immutable truths. Woke hysteria was allowed to dominate by citizens who shirked our duty.
To the extent that Mr. West advocates that we bring an end to the hard core ideological progressive regime of Mr. Eby, he is undoubtedly right.
To the extent, however, that Mr. West is advocating its replacement with a government that ignores ideology entirely in favour of mere pragmatism, he is quite wrong imho.
The right has already tried the pragmatic route of ignoring ideology and sticking to simply the economy. In so doing, it ceded the field of ideology to the left. It did not challenge head on the ill-conceived ideas of critical theory and wokism that have resulted in reverse racism, harm reduction, climate ideology, men in women's sports, DEI practices in government and business, attacks on our national history, heritage and values, etc... In the absence of challenge, these ill-conceived progressive ideas spread and took root in our institutions.
The problem is that when these progressive ideas take root, there are real world consequences. You can't have safe communities with progressive ideologies informing criminal justice and harm reduction. You can't have an economy that creates opportunity and a rising standard for all with progressive ideologies informing climate and reconciliation policies. DRIPA is a very good example of the latter.
The reality is that pragmatism must be informed by principle and principles are informed by ideology. There must be both a balance of pragmatism and principle but also well thought out principles. The current NDP goverment has neither the balance nor the well thought out principles. It is simply all bad ideology.
The BC Conservatives have good ideas and, thus, good ideology. They also are signalling that they will approach governance with a good balance of pragmatism and principle.
But, once they form goverment, they will have to clean house of a lot of bad policies and laws that were inspired by the bad ideology of the NDP. This will be seen as idelogical because it is ideological but it is also very necessary in order to have safer streets, a better public service, a better economy, etc... Only once the house is cleaned of bad NDP ideology, can we 'firmly turn the page on this era, and leave it behind'.
Kerry-Lynne Findley won yesterday despite numerous obstacles. She was too old to win. She faced an extremely well funded candidate backed by the best strategy team money could buy. Kerry-Lynne's core support was discouraged from voting by the BC party HQ's decision to require digital verification. The mainstream media called her extreme right. Someone orchestrated a wrap up smear alleging election act violations then leaking them to the press. There are even rumors of ballots that were disqualified yesterday despite the digital verification requirement. Kerry-Lynne won despite all this because she's a fighter and a true leader. BC Conservatives need to stand with her. They will do everything they can to tear her down. It's a great day.
Leaders know the importance of synergy with other like minded leaders. Aaron Gunn built a movement that resuscitated @Conservative_BC prior to last election. Fell ever so short but Kerry-Lynne Findlay is the catalyst to a majority government next go round. Congratulations.
Congratulations to the new leader of the BC Conservative Party and the next Premier of British Columbia @KerryLynneFindl for a hard-fought and well-deserved victory!
Looking forward to working with you to defeat the NDP and bring common sense back to BC! 🇨🇦
Congratulations to @KerryLynneFindl, the next Premier of BC.
She won as a principled Conservative fighting for property rights, low taxes, small government, free enterprise, and getting tough on crime.
I want to thank all the candidates who put their names forward in this race.
Let’s now work together to make Canada affordable, safe, and united here at home.
Be assured NDP brain trust huddling even as we speak to decide if it’s deep six David Eby time. NDP does NOT want to get into an election with Eby at helm based on current disastrous performance on most fronts. Look for a retirement & announcement of their own leadership race.
Either more support from Black or that combined with Elliott not ranking on a good percentage of Black’s ballots. In that case no points/votes to transfer to Elliott. Another reason why the ranked ballot system is a Wild West shoot out. Gathering thoughts for tomorrow.
Hey Glen, I'm looking forward to your next Substack article to explain how she managed this. I think your earlier assessment was spot on, but this was very strange. She had to have had more conservative support from the Black side, I think.
Looks like my Mission Statement on the back of my business card is looking pretty good tonight. Huge win against formidable odds (some legitimate & some not) for a true conservative warrior who will move heaven & earth to restore BC to its rightful prosperity & bright future.
Newly elected B.C. Conservative leader Kerry-Lynne Findlay delivered her victory speech after winning on the fourth ballot:
"In our national anthem, we cry out to God to make our land glorious and free. A free people, free choices and free speech in a free enterprise economy."
Kerry-Lynne Findlay’s BC Conservatives know they’re over the target when the rattled NDP attack dogs don’t even have the grace or courtesy to acknowledge the victory of the new leader of the official opposition - & certain to be the next Premier of BC. Not surprised.
By & away the NDP’s worst nightmare. But BC’s next great hope for a return to common sense, prosperity and a bright future. Even Rob Shaw’s unfounded, baseless hit piece couldn’t derail the Findlay campaign. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Onward!
Thank you BC Conservative Party for granting the #BCNDP its wildest dream! 💭The most conservative, hard-right, dubious, divisive candidate - is now the leader of the Official Opposition!😈 #bcpoli#cdnpoli#vanpoli
