This is a podcast help give hunters a few suggestions and tactics on hunting North American game animals with a bow and arrow. We appreciate each of you!
Back in southern Wisconsin getting another spot ready for the season.
A little sweat now can make a big difference when the season rolls around.
Thatβs all part of The Obsession.
Mike's biggest hunting challenge?
Sitting still. ππ¦
Even after all these years, he admits he still gets antsy. Karl thinks they've gotten more patient with age... Mike isn't so sure.
What's the toughest hunt you've ever done?
How early do you start calling bucks? π¦
Mike & Karl explain why they start earlier in Southern Wisconsin, then break out the calls for a little demonstration.
When do you start?

A buck way off in the distance spotted the decoy while Mike was filming at Phil's... and came RUNNING in. π¦ He circled the guys, checked everything out, and eventually moved on.
Fertilizing the Thunderdome before the brassicas go in.
It's not the most exciting part of habitat work...
But it's one of the most important.
Every step counts. π¦

One more step before the brassicas go in.
Karl and I are spreading fertilizer, giving each other a hard time, and getting the Thunderdome ready for fall.
The habitat work is important...
The laughs along the way make it even better. π€π¦
This plot has changed fast.
The corn is already over 6 feet tall, and it's doing exactly what we wanted.
Little by little, the Build-A-Woods project is coming together, and it's only getting better from here.

The Thunderdome is worked up and almost ready.
βοΈ Tilled
πͺ¨ Picking rocks
πΏ One more Roundup application
π Cleaning up loose grass
After that... it's finally time to plant the brassicas.
The details matter if you want a food plot that performs this fall. π¦
The Thunderdome is coming together.
It's been mowed.
It's been sprayed.
Now it's time to fertilize and seed before the brassicas go in.
The prep work isn't flashy, but it's what makes a great food plot.
Fall starts long before opening day. π¦
Step one βοΈ Mow.
Step two βοΈ Spray with Roundup.
Next up... till and plant.
We're trying to get these brassicas established before mid-September so the deer don't browse them down before they really get growing.
If you're planning your fall food plots, now's the time!
I came out here to start prepping two fields for brassicas.
Instead, I found a giant rotten tree laying in the pond.
Now it has to be cut up and removed.
Just another quick project at The Beautiful Mess. π

βοΈ First mow is underway.
If you're planning for fall, now's the time to get after it.
The work you do today is what pays off when deer season gets here.

One arrow every morning.
Not because it's easy...
Because it builds confidence when the moment finally comes.
Mike explains why this simple habit helps him prepare for bear season, and why the lesson applies to a lot more than hunting.
