England's oldest surviving street name has been in use for over a thousand years.
Long before modern roads and motorways, there was Watling Street.
The original road was built by the Romans nearly 2,000 years ago, but the name "Watling Street" was given by the Anglo-Saxons over 1,000 years ago.
The name comes from the Old English "Waecelinga Straet", meaning "the road of the Waecelingas", an Anglo-Saxon tribe thought to have lived near St Albans.
Remarkably, the same name can still be found on streets across England today, from London to Canterbury, St Albans, Towcester and beyond.
Every time you pass a Watling Street, you're seeing a name that has survived kingdoms, conquests and centuries of change.
This morning, The King spent time with specialist officers of British Transport Police, before officially opening the organisation’s new headquarters. 🚨
Amongst officers were some of the first responders involved in the Huntington train attack and recent train crash in Bedford, as well as specialists from the canine unit and drone team.
👮 British Transport Police is the specialist police force for Britain’s railways, London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, the Midland Metro tram system, Croydon Tramlink, Tyne and Wear Metro, Glasgow Subway and IFS cloud cable car, policing the network across England, Scotland and Wales.
3 major polls out this week, all showing Reform down and Conservatives up.
Reform lead is down to 5% with MoreInCommon.
It’s down to 4% with YouGov
and it’s down to 3% with FindOutNow.
These are TINY leads. We could have crossover within weeks.
Prince Harry:
“Stop invading my privacy.”
Also Prince Harry: Here’s 400+ pages of my family’s private life, a six-hour Netflix documentary, a string of tell-all, self-serving interviews, and years of publicly airing family grievances.
That’ll be millions, thanks.
“Climate change is an emergency.”
Boards another private jet.
“I want reconciliation.”
Publishes another interview attacking the very people he claims he wants to reconcile with.
“I hate the media.”
Also Prince Harry: Calls them the moment he has a book, documentary, self-serving narrative, PR campaign, or lawsuit to promote.
“I just want a normal life.”
Moves to Hollywood, signs multi-million-dollar media deals and never stops talking about being royal.
Prince Harry doesn’t have principles. He has a revolving menu of grievances, victim narratives, and profit opportunities that he rotates depending on what’s paying, what’s trending, or what keeps him in the spotlight.
Labour will let rapists and paedophiles out of prison early from September.
Andy Burnham has no plan to stop it - and failed to vote against it this week.
So today I’m presenting a Bill to Parliament.
Will Labour let it through?
There is a reason. Bridget Philipson absolutely - and spitefully - hates excellence. Anything that hints at excellence is torn down. She is the queen of Tall Poppy Syndrome.
'The difference between me and other politicians is that I'm not a hypocrite!'
Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch explains why she is refraining from calling a general election after Keir Starmer announced his resignation.
For me, the right outcome is simple.
Drop all charges against Cody Harper and issue him a full public apology.
I don't want to see the female police officer sacked or imprisoned. Retraining and a formal warning would be a fair response.
The real injustice is that the wrong person was arrested while the alleged attackers walked away.
The whole incident was a farce from start to finish. Justice should correct mistakes, not double down on them.
For a Prince - and also a sitting Labour Baroness - to accuse a High Court judge of a “whitewash” is disgraceful.
If they think the judge got it wrong, they can appeal.
But branding a reasoned judgment a “whitewash” is not criticism. It is a brazen attack on the rule of law.
