@melanekolalia@KinezumiJ@realcoofy@thatbluenumber if you like steamOS id suggest trying it on your own pc. its much easier to setup than you might think. happy to help if you run into issues or have questions about running linux generally.
(i’ve been daily driving arch for around 8 years-ish)
@melanekolalia@KinezumiJ@realcoofy@thatbluenumber it’s a linux distribution. calling steamos not linux is like calling ubuntu not linux. also you can install steamos on most hardware (i recommend avoiding nvidia gpus but it’ll still work)
@Manus51316562@Psyk_X@k1rallik yes, your statement was that they run above the os layer. which is untrue.
x86 executables can be run on arm with translation libraries (rosetta comes to mind). no recompilation needed.
i’m not saying it’s impossible. just that the os cannot handle cisc/risc abstraction.
@Manus51316562@Psyk_X@k1rallik software most certainly does not run above the os layer. x86 -> arm does require translation which does cost performance (and may introduce bugs). the os cannot abstract away the differences between x86 and ARM yet because they run on completely different instruction sets.
@smixqse@irth7@RobbyThomas2525@AChevyWolf yes you’re right, my bad. the shared link itself has to be reported. they cannot check private uploads. thanks for not accepting my statement, i learned something new.
