@TheBloggess@AmanitaEater This is my dog Rusty. He licks everything in sight which annoys the hell out of me, but he’s still my favorite thing in the world. When I’m anxious, stressed, depressed, suicidal, he’s there. I hope you have your own “rusty” but until then, we’re here ♥️
@braunthecolor when you miss your exit on the thruway because your heart stopped when you heard that the incredible sounding person Wyatt just profiled on @manicepisodepod is from your very own city #LetsBeFriends?
A5: Agencies should continuously check in with staff to maintain an understanding of the culture and needs and make it clear that the staff is valued. There should be opportunities for staff to come together to build a united team and to keep everyone on the same page. #MacroSW
A4: I have put together 'Care for the Caregiver' workshops for workers at my agency to educate folks on trauma, compassion fatigue and promote self-care that staff alike have benefitted from. Small staff self-care activities can also be worked into schedules + meetings. #MacroSW
Q4: Professionals, especially in the field of social work, are exposed to not only their own personal trauma, but also the trauma of others. What are ways agencies can support and promote self-care for their employees? #MacroSW
A3: Negative agency culture can mentally compromise staff who are stressed or disheartened keeping them from being at the best for clients. In these cultures there may also be disagreements, inconsistencies + lack of coordination that prevent proper delivery of services. #MacroSW
A2: I have been in workplaces where perceptions are very different and tension is high which has made it difficult to hold onto a strong and hopeful professional vision. In these situations I question the work and intentions of the agency and thus my contributions. #MacroSW
Q2: Not using the names of agencies, have you ever worked or interned in an agency where the workplace culture was not ideal? If so, how did that affect you? #MacroSW
A1: I see agency/organizational culture as the social, emotional and psychological environment of a workplace that results from the interactions of individuals' behaviors and actions, values and practices of the workplace, management styles and more. #MacroSW
Tonight I will be retroactively participating in the 4/18 #MacroSW chat - Agency Culture: Establishing Balanced Boundaries, having been unable to participate in any live chats. I will copy and paste questions here for convenience.
The Trevor Project's suicide prevention and crisis intervention services for LGBTQ youth have expanded to meet demands of today's youth, extending hours of their text and chat services so that they are now available 24/7. Way to go @TrevorProject! https://t.co/8r0HPgMn2X #UBSW500
An unpopular opinion out of the NYT - suicide may not be preventable in the way we wish to believe when medication only helps 40 to 60% of people and half of suicide attempts are made impulsively. What we may need is a different kind of change. https://t.co/3chzIoYgH2 #UBSW500
The Supreme Court announced Monday that they will review cases on gay and transgender rights in the workplace this fall, determining whether or not laws against sex discrimination include sexual orientation and identity. https://t.co/lJ7dGRJr1I #UBSW500
A high school lacrosse coach in Utah has gone above and beyond, supporting his players and hiring assistant coaches with experience in counseling, after losing two players to suicide. https://t.co/uF9vnPjsc7 #UBSW500
As someone who has made and taken these calls in this very city, this is unacceptable. The strength it takes to reach out for help in these moments must be received by something other than silence for 20+ minutes. We must be there for others. https://t.co/mXBlnjls0W #UBSW500
