Modern horror movies hit you with a lot of loud noises and things jumping at you with no real consequence. In the 70s the character got hit with a hammer most of the time. Ghost movies are played out for this reason, which is why you need a good story, like many from the 70s had.

I do think horror has always been smart. The 70s was full of A-rank horror movies like Halloween and Alien. Nothing is new, which is why newer movies don't feel new to me, no matter how good they are. The 2010s are overrated. The 60s. 70s, 80s, and 30s are better.

Jump scares work when there is a good payoff to it. Horror based in suspense is just building up to a payoff. If the payoff goes nowhere, it's bullshit.

Any form of Judo is funner to watch than BJJ, and they're the same art. BJJ comes from Judo. Take an American wrestler and have him do UFC Judo for a few years, and he'll be a Ruissan badass in no time.

The UFC should have done UFC Judo or catch wrestling. The other arts will get more well-rounded fighters for MMA, even karate would work better. There's your feeder system. Just do old school Judo. Mostly unlimited time on the ground, throws, and takedowns.

@J0hnADouglas Blade could work as 70s blaxploitation with a Hammer film look to it. Hammer blood has a cool color to it, and you could work him into the history easy. But what do I know?
