“Teachers furious at a state government plan to underfund public schools for another six years will take to the streets in a mass protest … as a parliamentary inquiry is launched into the growing scandal.”

Australia’s education system is a mess due to inadequate funding and severe imbalance between public and private schools. If there’s any point at all to a Labor Government it should be doing a root and branch overhaul of the system. Imagine AUKUS was scrapped and schools funded.
And then this out later on Friday night:

Shocking that non-gov schools can double dip from both State and Fed for infrastructure funding while public schools don’t have the basics.
School funding inequity is baked in by both levels of @AustralianLabor
Fantastic to visit Day 2 of the Victorian Association of State Secondary Principals annual conference, and hear from principals on the ground in our community about the key issues facing principals and the broader community.
@JasonClareMP Ok…that’s nice….pat on the back… but let’s get Victoria sorted. You may need to drag them kicking and screaming to the table but do it before they spend too much more money on private schools!
@JasonClareMP This is embarrassingly tone deaf. Public schools in ALL jurisdictions need to be fully funded.
School funding inequity seems baked in and the bias towards it embedded in both major political parties.
Three of Australia’s wealthiest private schools got double the federal funding they were entitled to last year | Australian education | The Guardian https://t.co/uyeebopZLb
Hence the intractable, entrenched, inequitable two speed education set up in Australia.
Majority of politicians are of it and for it.
Makes the powerful and embedded Catholic and Independent school system lobbyists almost superfluous
BREAKING! 📣
The ACTU executive has passed a resolution today calling on the Prime Minister to commit to providing a minimum of 25% of the funding required to bring public schools to the Schooling Resource Standard. #auspol@unionsaustralia@AlboMP@JasonClareMP
“If you start around schools and make safe walking and cycling routes to that school, then you build a community and then it’s much cheaper actually to make safe infrastructure in that small community than build a whole new separated bike lane somewhere.”
