These systems are very tricky to forecast, so keep an eye out! #CAwx
Radar valid 01/01 10:30AM: Tail end of heavier, widespread rain passing over the Coachella Valley. Behind it, showers are more off-and-on & generally lighter, with a few moderate showers. This trend (lighter, more isolated showers) conts this afternoon before showers taper off.
Light rain chances begin Wednesday morning with the majority of rainfall expected to fall late Wednesday night through Thursday morning. Chances for rain over and west of the mountains will be 80-90% around midnight going into the 🎉New Year🥳.
Here is a thread about the upcoming storms:
A flood watch is in effect for widespread heavy rain late tonight through Wednesday. Totals have trended down a bit in San Diego, but heavy rain bands may locally increase totals above what is shown. Slight chance of thunderstorms!
We’re all hands on deck for this storm.
➡️ @CA_DWR has activated its Flood Ops Center to monitor rivers and coordinate response. 4 MILLION sandbags are prepositioned.
➡️ @CAL_FIRE remains prepared with personnel and equipment strategically positioned across the state.
A flood watch will go into effect late Tuesday and last through Wednesday across Southern California. Excess runoff from heavy rainfall may result in flooding of rivers and other low-lying areas. Mud and debris flows possible in the mountains near burn scars.
Widespread rain will occur through the morning into much of the afternoon. If you must travel, stay safe on the roadways and watch for flooding.
As we always say (and you always know 🩵), "Turn Around, Don't Drown!" ⚠️ #CAwx
#Skywarn activation is NOT requested at this time. However weather spotters are encouraged to report significant weather conditions to @NWSSanDiego. Share flooding photos!
