Our Army was fighting for liberty even before the birth of our country, its declaration of independence and its ideals to which we remain committed. Today, and everyday, we embrace the same patriotism of our forefathers, and our unique and exceptional history.
I was just reminded I was named Captain on this day in 2003. Remember it just like yesterday when The Boss called me and I thought I was in trouble… glad I was wrong haha.
17APR1945 Evening
(1/2) By dark, Americans have captured the marshaling yard, an airport to the north and two neighborhoods. The 3rd ID is now bearing down on the walls protecting the old, inner part of Nuremberg. They begin shelling the old city.
1st Lt. Francis X. Burke, a #DogfaceSoldier, fought on two continents and three countries. On April 17, 1945, Burke's most heroic moments unfolded as his regiment fought its way into Nuremberg. Later he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions. #OTDIH
