Tonight's ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by Brielle Saracini and her husband, Sean McGuire, who both were just 10 years old when they lost their fathers on 9/11 and found each other through Camp Better Days.
Saracini’s father, Victor, was the captain of United Flight 175, which was directed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center, where McGuire’s father, Patrick, was working on the 84th floor.
Brielle’s connection to the Yankees began just days after the tragedy, when she wrote a letter to Derek Jeter detailing her family’s deeply personal loss, explaining that her dad would want her to realize her dream of meeting him.
Jeter invited Brielle and her family to a game, beginning a lasting friendship and connection with the Yankees organization 💙
“ALS has forced me to realize that who I am is so much bigger than what my body can do.”
Former @Titans RB @ChrisJohnson28 kept his ALS battle private for a long time. In a letter to his kids, he writes that he is still the same person he has always been despite the disease — he’ll always be their dad. ❤️ https://t.co/alHzJF5IgO
John Sterling is as much a part of the fabric of the New York Yankees organization as any player. It was an honor to have him call every one of my games during my career and an absolute pleasure to get to know him on a personal basis. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.

Before tonight's game, we held a moment of silence to remember longtime baseball evaluator and former New York Yankees Scout Dick Groch 💙
Groch gained his most notoriety as the Yankees Scout that convinced the Front Office to draft Derek Jeter. He famously said about Jeter: "He's not going to the University of Michigan; the only place Derek Jeter is going is Cooperstown.”
We send our sincerest condolences to Groch's loved ones.
“I want to win, I want to bring a championship back to New York… That’s the ultimate dream right there.”
@Yankees Captain Aaron Judge joined former Captain @DerekJeter to discuss what it would mean to get another title for New York 🏆
