@asianinvestors There’s no way $MRVL can finance this without using stock unfortunately. Lot of factors at play here AI, $LITE and $MRVL shareholders are going thru uncertainty Rn

October's AI selloff had a pattern: the further a stock fell, the harder it bounced.
Peak → low, then low → Oct 28 close:
1. $AAOI −48% → +22%
2. $LITE −34% → +21%
3. $VRT −23% → +25%
4. $NVDA −12% → +2%
Optics fell roughly 3–4x as hard as Nvidia, and is rebounding about 10x as fast.
Most of this was positioning, not fundamentals. Nothing in last week's earnings broke the AI demand story; crowded high-beta trades unwound. I'd want the rebound to hold through next week's optics earnings before calling it a bottom.
Bottom in AI infrastructure, or a dead-cat bounce in high beta?
Not financial advice.

Marvell is in advanced talks to acquire AI optics supplier Lumentum, per Reuters.
A deal could be announced as soon as next week.

Exciting news that $MRVL might be acquiring $LITE. At first I didn't see why $LITE would agree to this. Market implied premium seems low and why agree to an acquisition when most of 2029 capacity is sold out? Years of business in advance and they literally own the laser bottleneck.
On the flip side, if you believe that optical components are cyclical and that $LITE's valuation is heavily priced, then this deal is a good thing because they are selling their scarcity (which may eventually fade) at "peak". $LITE also decreases competitive risk by being part of $MRVL's ecosystem.
My main concern with the deal is how $MRVL is going to fund it (not to mention regulatory constraints). They have what, $4B cash on hand? The rest has to come from stock so looks like Marvell will have a lot of new shareholders!
Strategically, it makes sense for $MRVL to vertically integrate Lumentum's lasers into their supply chain as they will hold the bottleneck leverage even over competitors but the acquisition cost is high. This is definitely also going to push competitors to try and second source lasers so bullish for $COHR and other suppliers. So many moving pieces on the board here, it will be interesting to see the result ♟️.
Again so many pod shop style anal-ysts emerged mentioning “Beijing” as main obstacle… $LITE set up is about improved risk reward with takeout value support and 50% upside with deal and 100%+ upside with no deal
That’s right. Remember Cloud Light?
It’s probly count as part of sales within China jurisdiction..let’s see how this rollout.
$MRVL succeed, then pls secure $AXT LTAs.
$MRVL failed, stick with $LITE Chinese supply chain.
$MRVL case pending, betting wars start there, long $LITE ..emm actually long all optics
Why are some people talking about $SIVE possibly being acquired after news about $MRVL and $LITE?
Any buyer today pays for $SIVE before the pipeline converts
So the rerating from turning that pipeline into revenue goes to the acquirer
If InP is scarce enough for MRVL to pay up for $LITE, the smart move for $SIVE is to stay independent and let the 2027 numbers do the talking.
$MRVL $LITE $SIVE $AVGO $GFS
Good question, since Sivers sits in the same laser layer Lumentum does.
Quick recap first. Bloomberg reported on Oct 28 that Marvell is in advanced talks to buy Lumentum, and a deal could be announced as soon as next week. Neither company has confirmed.
Sivers has no direct exposure. It's a Swedish maker of indium phosphide lasers, and none of its disclosed laser deals are with Marvell or Lumentum. Its named partners are $GFS, which is putting Sivers laser arrays into its silicon photonics platform, $POET on external light sources for co-packaged optics, and $JBL, where Sivers expects first volume orders in the first half of 2027.
The indirect effect is where it gets interesting. Marvell sells the DSP, the signal chip at the heart of an 800G or 1.6T optical module, and competes there with Broadcom. Lumentum is one of the two main suppliers of the indium phosphide lasers that sit next to it, and its CEO said in September it can ship only about 30% of the laser demand customers are placing on it for 2027.
If those lasers end up under a DSP vendor's roof, Broadcom and the other companies building co-packaged optics, where the optics move into the chip package itself, have good reason to line up a laser source that isn't owned by a rival. That's pretty much the gap Sivers is pitching into. It's spending $30m to expand its Glasgow fab to more than 100 million lasers a year, due online in Q4 2027.
So for Sivers I'd read the deal as a tailwind.
@carrioresearch How would the merger affect sivers
Why Marvell dropping POET looks calculated now
In April, $MRVL canceled every Celestial AI purchase order with $POET over a confidentiality breach. Six months later, Bloomberg reports $MRVL is in advanced talks to buy $LITE.
I don’t think those two are unrelated.
Look at the timeline. Marvell closes Celestial AI in February. In March, it runs a joint optical switching demo with $LITE at OFC. In April, it cuts $POET out of Celestial. In October, it’s in advanced talks to buy $LITE outright.
So if you’re already planning to own Lumentum’s lasers and optics, you don’t want an outside optics supplier sitting inside Celestial AI. You want everything in-house. POET’s CFO talking about the order on Stocktwits handed Marvell a clean, defensible exit, and they took it.
Marvell only ever cited the breach, so I can’t prove the rest. But the timing lines up a little too well.
What it means for $SIVE: when a chip giant decides to own a piece of the stack, outside suppliers inside its ecosystem become disposable overnight. Outside that ecosystem, it’s the opposite. Everyone competing with Marvell suddenly needs lasers from someone Marvell doesn’t own.
都开始画饼了是吧,海力士说到2030年,你就吹到2029年😂都牛逼哄哄的
Lumentum CEO: 产能比需求低70%,订单排到了2029年, 正按未来4到5年的预期提前扩产。 $LITE

$MRVL Simply cannot acquire $lite alone. Maybe amazon or google finance part of the deal. Taking 100b debt is crazy.
@RealSimpleAriel Haha! I do think there will be some consolidation in the next 12 months among the AI names, so not that surprised with the $MRVL and $LITE news.
