pd lee somin and writer yoon shinhye’s recent interview with star news & shared the behind the scenes of casting byeon wooseok in jaeseok’s bnb rules / yoo jaesuk’s camp (full).

first, pd lee somin said, “we cast byeon wooseok after lovely runner ended. i thought he had a boyish charm, but when i actually met him, my first impression was that he was honest.

writer yoon shinhye brought laughter by placing great significance on “the very existence of byeon wooseok.” she said, “the very existence of byeon wooseok has a refreshing quality that represents youth, doesn’t it? we cast him expecting that kind of image in yoo camp as well.”

however, the production team was also surprised by byeon wooseok’s unexpected variety-show talent. writer yoon shonhye said, “he even had a surprising clumsy charm.” in the part 2, it became even more of a byeon wooseok camp. i think that charm came out even better than we expected.”

pd lee somin also said, “unlike my first impression, while filming yoo camp, i found myself thinking, “why is he so sloppy?” i saw this as another real charm of byeon wooseok. he is incredibly gentle. even when things were difficult, he didn’t show it much and tried to find enjoyable moments within it. that was impressive.”

in addition, byeon wooseok displayed special chemistry with lee kwangsoo as the door brothers. regarding this, pd lee somin said, “i thought byeon wooseok would get along well with ji yeeun and lee kwangsoo. especially with lee kwangsoo, since they are similar in height, just standing together gave off the feeling of ‘door brothers.’ i expected good chemistry among the four soft-hearted members, and it really came out that way.”

writer yoon shinhye also said, “everyone worked hard, but byeon wooseok really did his best throughout the three days two-night shoot. i was grateful for how hard he worked.”

then what was byeon wooseok’s reaction when yoo campwas first proposed to him? writer yoon shinhye said, “our program's title itself is yoo jaesuk camp.” when we gave him the proposal, i think he chose it because of his trust in and fondness for yoo jaesuk. but since it was his first fixed variety show, i think he worried about it. two shoots lasting three days and two nights, with cameras rolling the whole time, could feel unfamiliar. nevertheless, i think the reason byeon wooseok found the courage to do it was largely because of yoo jaesuk’s influence.”

pd lee somin pointed out byeon wooseok’s misunderstanding that it would be a ‘healing camp,’ causing laughter. she said, “nobody ever told byeon wooseok that yoo camp was a ‘healing camp.’ he came thinking that on his own. i think he had a certain picture in mind.” she continued, “byeon wooseok immersed himself much more than expected. the expressions he showed on yoo camp were like someone genuinely participating in a retreat. he was completely immersed. because of that, a lot of honest sides of him came out. we never expected any sloppiness, but he showed a clumsy charm as well, and thanks to that, the four developed clumsy chemistry together. he did much better than we expected.”

they also shared byeon wooseok’s reaction after the release. pd lee somin said, “byeon wooseok contacted the yoo camp production team and said, “thank you.” he said he truly healed through yoo camp and that it became his own personal ‘healing camp.’ he sent a message saying he didn’t even realize how time passed and that he was grateful. not once did he blame the production team; he only talked about how enjoyable it was.”

writer yoon shinhye recalled an unexpected side of byeon wooseok, who had been nervous about games. she said, “byeon wooseok worried, saying things like, “do you play a lot of games? i’m not confident about games.” so he secretly practiced games from existing variety shows. he was very nervous and ended up making a lot of mistakes on site. cont
