India's media is reporting that the MAYDAY message from Air India flight AI171, lasted five seconds and said, “MAYDAY… MAYDAY… MAYDAY… NO POWER… NO THRUST… GOING DOWN…"

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has announced the formation of a high-level multi-disciplinary panel to investigate the cause of the crash. The panel will assess the circumstances leading to the crash and evaluate existing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines currently in place.
