Digital inclusion is not just about access to technology , it is about creating opportunities, confidence, and a future where everyone can take part in the digital world
That's what we do at Apala One Stop Youth Centr

Through digital skills, peacebuilding, youth empowerment, and community initiatives, we continue to create spaces where young people can learn, innovate, and build a better future.
The change we want to see starts with what we do today.
From War-torn to Tech-born 🥹🙌🏾
This is an impactful story of the Apala One Stop Youth Center (equipped with computers, a fully furnished library w/ over 5000 knowledge products ) based in Alebtong, in Northern Uganda- established in 2023 by COMESA in partnership with Save the Children, the Horn of Africa Youth Network and the NYC Uganda.
The Center was established following the 20 years insurgency led by the Lord Resistance Army, leaving the region with a recorded high level of poverty. With 70% of the population being youth and the majority uneducated, the district struggled with high teenage pregnancies, drug abuse, and unemployment, with subsistence agriculture as the only economic activity. The district also held the unfortunate distinction of having the highest school dropout rates in the region.

Ignorance of computer study – many of us did not have any knowledge on computers" and "There was no center around us here". This digital divide left young people completely disconnected from the technological opportunities that could transform their lives.
Following the Center’s launch in December 2023, over 135 young people have been trained to equip them with ICT skills, business development skills, and project development sills among others - with the view to bring out the youth from idleness, unemployment that will in turn reduce perceived conflicts in the post-conflict region.
From 26th to 30th May 2025, COMESA_GPS deployed an M&E team to conduct an impact assessment of the Center on the youth of Northern Uganda. 51 stakeholders including the youth trained and the local authorities that supported the center were interviewed through FGDs and KIIs.
The responses and testimonies showed the great impact that the Center has had on the youth.
Below are a few testimonies 👇

Youth who once feared computers now confidently declare: "Initially, I feared using a computer, but now I can use the computer accurately!". The center has enabled practical economic outcomes, with youths reporting "I can now make money from typing and printing - people pay me for these services”
Those who are Teachers in some of the schools in the community can now "type assessments and report cards for pupils," … those young beginners in photography have learned to "edit pictures using Adobe tools," …farmers can "search online for solutions" for crop diseases, and tailors can "utilize Google to look for fashion designs". This cross-sector impact demonstrates the center's role as a true community development catalyst and a critical tool in preventing conflict in the community.
