Court Update.

Republic v Gifty Oware Mensah (National Service case)

Cross-examination of the 3rd Prosecution Witness, Mr Eric Nyarko, Former Head of Accounts at the National Service Authority, continued today.

Today’s session started at about 15 mins after 10 in the forenoon and ended a few minutes to noon.

During the cross-examination, the witness told the court that sometime in January 2023 the accused person told him at a meeting that she had secured a loan agreement with ADB to supply goods on Hire Purchase to National Service Persons.
He said upon hearing this, he informed the accused that there was already a marketplace system that have private individuals registered to sell goods to NSPs on hire purchase and therefore it will be better if ADB followed the same procedure for onboarding on the marketplace. According to Mr Nyarko, the accused person then explained to him that this was a special agreement with ADB and that she’s going to secure the loan with a list of national service individuals who had opted for the items and that the IT consultant who manages the software will send him a list of interested person which was subsequently sent.
He said that he only created a standing order based on this supposed list for monthly deducations for the repayment of the loan, upon the instruction of the accused person.

He further told the court that the BNI upon an invitation told him that this list of NSPs which he had made a standing order for were non-existent.

Cross/examination continues on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 10 o’clock in the forenoon.
