It's been a defining moment for agencies in the Ministry of Interior since Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo became the Minister. The Nigerian Correctional Service is advancing with reforms and results to show, it can only get better.
In the heart of Abuja, leaders from across Africa gathered with a shared sense of purpose and determination at the opening of the Regional Conference on Prisoner Classification and the Use of Technology in Prison Settings in Africa. I joined this important gathering today at the Transcorp Hilton, where the energy was clearly evident.
This three-day gathering, brings together heads of Correctional Services from across our continent, alongside valued partners from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL). It reflects our shared determination to build stronger, more effective, and more humane correctional systems.
In my keynote address, I made it clear that effective prisoner classification is not merely an administrative exercise, but the very foundation of humane, secure, and truly rehabilitative prison management. We must harness the power of technology to strengthen security, significantly reduce recidivism, and transform our correctional facilities into genuine centres of reformation where lives can be positively changed.
Under the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Federal Government remains fully committed to modernising our justice and correctional sector.
This conference represents a bold step forward; not just for Nigeria, but for the entire African continent. It will enhance practical strategies and a strong regional framework that will help us address overcrowding, improve rehabilitation outcomes, and uphold the dignity of both inmates and officers.
As government, Nigeria is proud to host this important continental conversation that will shape a future where correctional services contribute meaningfully to national security, public safety, and sustainable development.
Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo at the Regional Conference on the classification of prisoners and the use of Technology in Prison in Africa emphasized the place of data in understanding our issues and making informed decisions to tackle them .
I attended the inauguration of the Executive members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja today.
This new regime will be led by the new President Comrade Babatunde Akintoye Afeez, popularly known as BabTee.
While commending the peaceful transition, it is important to acknowledge the unprecedented achievements of this administration in stabilising Nigeria’s education sector and eliminating the era of prolonged strikes that once destroyed academic calendars.
Notably, under his administration, there have been no prolonged ASUU strikes, a feat that has restored predictability and hope to the academic calendar of Nigerian students.
I am confident that this new NANS leadership will uphold the ideals of Aluta Continua and advance the course of Nigerian students, both home and in the diaspora.
Earlier today, Mr. John Ehidreme, 56, was arrested for illegally dumping refuse into a drainage channel at No. 18 Oluoga, Ikorodu.
The Lagos State Government reiterates that indiscriminate waste disposal is a violation of environmental laws, as it obstructs drainage channels, contributes to flooding, and poses significant public health and environmental risks.
Residents are urged to dispose of waste responsibly and use only approved waste management facilities.

The Nigerian Student never had it so good in terms of access to fund and stable academic calendar for many years. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is changing that sector also with improved pay for Lecturers which is less spoken about.

Our joint task force, working with security agencies, shut down an illegal gold-mining operation at Ileki-Ijesa in Osun State.
We arrested two suspects on-site, seized their equipment and sealed the area. The suspects are currently cooperating with investigators to help us track down the financiers backing these operations.
I want to be clear that our focus isn't just on the casual workers on the ground. We are actively going after the sponsors and quiet backers of these illicit activities.
Through the work of our Mining Marshals, we have already arrested over 300 illegal miners and prosecuted more than 150 of them, including foreign nationals.
Illegal mining destroys local farmland, pollutes our waters and invites insecurity into peaceful communities. The government cannot police every stretch of land alone. If you live in these areas, I urge you to work with us. Do not shield these operators.
We are committed to making sure Nigeria's mineral wealth actually benefits Nigerians and we will keep putting the pressure on until the sector is completely orderly and sanitised.
As Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo rightly put it; Nation-building is a joint task, and when we have a leader like Tinubu who is truly leading without fear, it's time for our nation to rise again.
@BTOofficial@Ekitiketekan@aeonalloy The Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration is building a legacy that will outlive the government. I hope we can leverage on some of his reforms as a nation.
@Ekitiketekan@officialABAT@NGRPresident@BTOofficial Good to see that Nigeria isn't just playing catch-up in some areas as before. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo is really thinking ahead, not like our old style of governance.
