A British friend was visiting me here in Coimbatore, and he asked me whether it would be safe to leave his laptop bag inside the car. I smiled and said that this is not his London. :)
Whenever I'm in cafés in SF, Paris or London, I just can't leave my laptop on the table and go to the restroom.
I'm sure it won't be there when I'm back.
Sometimes I'm even afraid to keep my phone on the table while I'm sitting there.
On the other hand, here in Koramangala, HSR or Indiranagar in Bangalore, I leave my laptop and wallet on the table, go for a walk or use the restroom, only to find my things exactly where I left them.
Some places back home are much safer and more trustworthy.
A friend in Coimbatore left car keys inside the car and went for a business trip; came back after 5 days, searched for the key all around. He went outside to the road in front of his apartment complex, where he usually parks his car, to find the car with the keys inside.

1. Humans used to marry real early .. it was mostly because life was very unpredictable.
2. Today's old teenagers would be parents a mere 100 years ago.
3. Do not use your interrogative lens on our itihasa. You aren't that erudite or smart.
4. Bolo jai Shri Ram.
Spent a decade in Shanghai, can confidently say: though Shanghai is sophisticated & costly, most basic things that you can access here & rest of China (including cities like Beijing & Guangzhou are almost always available in India, but at a premium or a super premium cost.
"The products we consider a luxury in India has become a commodity in China." - this is true for rest of the world as well.
Hence, China's 15K$ GDP per capita nominal goes very far. So when you evalutate China's standard of living PPP (32K$) is the right measure.
I had this experience. I typically stay in Marriot 4-5 stars due to years of loyalty to the brand, but one time I had to stay in a service apartment kind of property in Shanghai. It was a last min booking on a very popular day and everything was sold out. It was quite a nice area. I was bit annoyed still
But, when I stayed there, I absolutely loved it. What I loved was how high quality everything was: bed, other furniture, paitnings on the wall, linen, plates, cutlery and so on...they also had a great gym and good breakfast for a cheap price. It was not empty - it was full, if anyone doubts they were doing it due to low occupancy.
Most of the things are made locally and are procured at a fraction of price people pay outside China. Same applies to cars, electronics, apparel and so on...hence money goes very far in China.
That is why I say when you evalutate China's standard of living PPP (32K$) is the right measure.
70% of the population was shitting in open.
75% had no access to banking.
You had to plan LPG refill.
There was a parallel govt with its own tax system from Nepal to TN - the red corridor.
It wasn’t beautiful. Maybe you were too young to notice.
@avataram A phone I had just purchased slipped out of the pants in a city taxi in Shanghai and tried a bit to recover it, even included the local the police, but to no avail.
has to go down as one of the most calculated and well coordinated intervention in a countries' affairs in history. we're living through future history book content today.
@man1sh_golcha@ankitdewan@prashantnhn Dumb question, if I have already made a non-refundable booking without applying for the fast track, is there any way to get fast track on that booking now?
saying it out loud here, at risk of sounding dumb, but this channel/guy is very specifically promoting (read painting target) niche Indian defence and deep tech startups.
It's like painting a sign for acquiring them or poaching their talent to sabotage them.
Ambani should take this on as a matter of ego and build indigenous EVs and social media platforms with the money he wastes on celebrities dancing at his parties and watches gifted by his son.
The two most overvalued major listed businesses in the world are SpaceX and Tesla. The two most overvalued major unlisted businesses in the world are Anthropic and OpenAI. The two most vulnerable businesses to an India digital industrial policy are Meta and Google. This is the time to give a “scare” to US Big Tech. They are rather vulnerable given their eroded cash flows. DC, NYC and SF need to be told in no unclear terms: you don’t mess around with India.
What’s your biggest globetrotter flex?
Mine:
I can walk out of an airport anywhere in the world, get into a car and just… drive.
Left-hand drive. Right-hand drive. Driving on either side of the road.
Barely any acclimatisation time.
Sounds insignificant. Until you realise how liberating it is 🌍
Okay. I going to bite the bullet and write it here.
A lot of friends ask me to talk to their high school kids to "motivate" and "direct". The kids love our conversations, but some of my friends don't.
Let me write it here and you be the judge!
Spot on. There’s a restaurant I frequent which gets impossibly busy during lunch hour but when I walk in, I always get a table and the parking attendant doubles up as my valet even though they don’t have valet parking.
