📍 Afriart Gallery Kampala
🥳 Exhibition opening: Saturday, 27th June, 4 - 8 PM
Yesterday I attended a beautiful, immersive event curated by visual artist @OdurArtUganda in collaboration with The Granary iraa. Music, food, and storytelling came together each dish inspired by the songs, with live artistic interpretations throughout.
Poets like @mitch_isabirye producer of “Kayissaali” Semagamda brought the project to life, reminding us how powerful collaboration can be. An outdoor setting, pillows, poetry under the moonlight, it was special.
#MuwawaAlbum is a true gem. We need more experiences like this. Thanks for the invite. I came from the #BaboonForest office to unwind with music but I left with an art piece and a special chilli jar from chef Nganda. Definitely my type of vibe and good peoples 🙌🏽🍾.
In 2021 we collaborated with a Ugandan Visual artist called @odurart for his installation called Muwawa that explores childhood trauma from bullets during Election period

In a country where state support for the arts is almost non-existent, a thriving cultural ecosystem has sprung up against the odds https://t.co/VedhsaUExN
The work is a commentary on the complexities of migration, blending historical and contemporary narratives to explore the multifaceted experiences of African people. Using passports as both a symbol and a medium, it delves into the tension between free movement
Odur Ronald uses aluminium printing plates and scrap metal to explore ideas of free movement, migration, access, belonging and identity. "Muly'Ato Limu" (translated from Luganda as "All in One Boat") is Odur’s most ambitious installation to date.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Koyo Kouoh, an extraordinary curator and champion of African art. We were looking forward to her visit to Umoja Art Gallery and are heartbroken by this loss. Her vision, voice, and legacy will continue to inspire.
Rest in power, Koyo.💔
