There's no one causal answer but probably a combination of not learning to cook anymore when young from parents, anxiety, depression, ease of delivery (not cost) and perhaps of disassociation from our relationship to food (ie, we can related to food in other ways than sustenance and pleasure of eating) though this probably has something to do with less communal living.
