The story of Africa and Nigeria in this context has too often been reduced to poverty, tribal conflict, colonialism and the arrival of Europeans; as though civilization itself began when European ships reached our shores.
This video isn't about romanticizing the past neither does knowing your history become bragging about the past.
It's about asking a much more uncomfortable question:
Who benefits when a people forget what they were capable of before they were conquered?
You cannot fully understand your present or imagine a different future if you have been taught to see your own history through someone else's eyes. No nation can grow beyond the imagination of its people.
It's time to break the psychological chains that tells Africans that everything valuable must come from somewhere else.

If you are not enjoying your book, you are free to close it and never open it again. Even if it's a classic that everyone loved. A book has one job, it literally only has to be interesting. If it's not, have no guilt about not finishing it.

@thebolamontana I understand where you are coming from, however, this tweet could also end up discouraging survivors from speaking up. A lot of organizations work to help victims and people should not be scared to speak up regardless.
Remaining silent is protecting the abuser.

The discourse around this book is a clear case of people judging a book by its cover and title. Non fictional books are like art- meant to evoke emotions and reactions so it not necessarily a bad thing.
