We are a coalition of advocates for the health and wellbeing of the people of Virginia in support of increased access to midwifery care. Pro CNM/CM/CPM!
Today is #NationalRuralHealthDay, a time to recognize the efforts of rural health care providers and address the unique health care challenges that rural citizens face today and into the future.
Thank you @CMSgov, @HHSgov for extending the waiver in Virginia to aid 6,000 people with needed pregnancy-related care. States shouldn’t need to get a waiver to extend postpartum coverage. Congress needs to make it mandatory! #BBBA https://t.co/ujr8Mz1pOb
Don't forget! In honor of #PerinatalNursesWeek, we're offering discounts, free educational products, and more! Learn more about how you can celebrate #PNW2021 with #AWHONN! https://t.co/80FMnWdael
This week is #BabyLossAwarenessWeek. This year's theme is wellbeing allowing us to explore what this means to people from all walks of life who have been affected by pregnancy and baby loss.
October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.
We honor and remember this month and every month those who have lost a child during pregnancy or lost a child in infancy. 💙
“Midwives make a real difference in infant mortality and maternal mortality,” “This bill will expand access to health care in rural districts and low-income areas and help to ensure the health of both mothers and their babies.”

Thank you House Appropriations Chair @rosadelauro & members for a robust discussion on reshaping & improving our nation's maternity care delivery system by improving access to culturally competent care, midwives, doulas, & birth centers. Pass #Momnibus#MidwivesforMOMS#BABIESAct

Thank you @GovernorVA for your efforts to increase the #perinatal workforce. #midwifery is a unique body of knowledge and skills and we need all #VirginiaMidwives working to the #fullscope of their training and certification to end preventable deaths.
“There’s a sense of urgency with this work. While maternal mortality rates are falling around the world, in the United States, they are rising. We cannot sit back and assume they’ll get to it. This is something that is a high priority.” https://t.co/btwYJ9zVbs
Executive order 57 allowed CNMs to practice without a consultation agreement requirement, and many have done so. There have been zero disciplinary actions against CNMs by the Joint Boards in 2020/21. HB1817 does not change where or how CNMs practice-simply increases access.
@GovernorVA all CNMs and CMs must pass a national certification exam by AMCB, this exam is accepted in all 50 states. 28 of those states enable indecent practice for CNMs.
@DelDawnAdamsVA Thank you @DelDawnAdamsVA for your hard work on this bill. We are grateful to have Virginia be the 28th state to grant CNMs full practice authority when @GovernorVA signs it into law.
@vaplan2018 We are grateful for the passage of the conference report. 28 of those states enable independent practice for CNMs, several of which border Virginia. We continue to lose Advanced Practice Midwives to neighboring states with less restrictive environments including DC and MD.
The health disparities can only be addressed when we allow educated professionals to work as professionals. It’s important that women, especially women in black communities, have choice and can work with a provider that looks like them.
