a little... suffocating."
a mirthless laugh. a shrug.
"being in my sister's shadow wasn't what stung the most. it was the disconnection. from her. from all of them... I couldn't follow in her or our parents' footsteps. so... maybe "stuck" isn't so far from the truth after all."
whatever it was that Mizuki had been dealing with, it sounded like it had gone on for a long time. long enough to leave a lasting impression on him, if not emotional wounds. if Wuyang had learned anything from their conversations so far, it was better not to touch upon that, +
I — can't exactly say that it wasn't . sometimes I find it hard to believe all of it is in the past .
[ he cleared his throat , forcing himself to focus on anything but the memories ]
you ever felt stuck like that .ᐣ
in case it would reopen any of them. maybe... maybe later, if Mizuki ever felt ready.
"I don't know if "stuck" is the right word for it. failing to live up to your family's expectations... overhearing your relatives call you a stain on the family name - it sure could feel +
the sudden coldness surrounding Mizuki was so tangible Wuyang instinctively removed his gaze from him, looking somewhere else in the most natural way possible. he felt like he needed to give him space, having reached where he shouldn't have. +
no one who would give him time to adjust? weren't those things just... basic human decency?
"people... weren't patient with you before?", he asked quietly, brown eyes filled with sadness.
this time, Wuyang didn't jump to an answer right away, watching him quietly and letting the words sink in. thinking about them, how he could even arrive at this conclusion. what had happened to him to feel like there was no one he could rely on? +
@ofclearwaters ah , right . I forgot you've got your sister and all . suppose that might've made it a little easier for you .
[ Mizuki rubbed the back of his neck ]
thank you . knowing there's at least one person willing to be patient with me is . . bittersweet .
@binding_chains I don't know if it would help you much, to be honest... you seem a little different from me. but i'd say a few weeks for sure! my sister joined not long after I did, so it's not fair to compare our situations... but that's why I'm here! you're not the only one who can listen. : >
@binding_chains I want you to feel welcome here. we all needed time to find our footing. should've seen me... besides, I think you're doing a really great job!
@binding_chains he's giving him a sad look .
"I don't think that at all... just not used to the way you talk yet. guess you'll have to talk some more..."
another little smile.
@binding_chains about it. I was just confused what you meant for a sec. all good!"
had his reaction discouraged Mizuki from joking with him now? would he watch his tongue even more than he already seemed to? Wuyang closed his eyes, huffing and slumping forward a little.
+
@binding_chains a little frown clouding his face, he looked aside, mulling over the verdict he had just received. the only time he had heard that word was in the context of someone sleeping with whoever wanted them; a person with no principles or personal limits. did he... seem like that to him?
so it not being the case came as a surprise to him. one he wouldn't be complaining about in the slightest. it felt nice to know he wouldn't dislike him for who he was.
that feedback came as a relief, drawing a deep sigh from Wuyang. at least Mizuki didn't think of him like he had thought he'd be thinking of him. he was so much more subtle, and introverted, than most people he knew. it was hard to gauge what was a neutral sign and what wasn't +
and a boy trying to be nice and generous towards him certainly wasn't gonna be added to the list ]
besides . . I don't mind if you ramble . you'll come to find out I'm a good listener .
[ he paused ]
I hope .
he couldn't deny that it was easy for him to lose himself in small monologues, especially if he was explaining something, or telling people about the things he was passionate about. Mizuki had put him under the impression he'd struggle to sit through something like that, +
