Suárez trying to explain how creatures are finite without a real distinction between essence and existence is just essentialism with extra steps. If act isn't limited by a really distinct potency, your creature is either God or a logical contradiction. Pick one! #Thomism

@AdMentemThomae Because act contains no negation, it is impossible for an act to limit itself. A boundary requires a passive principle that is not the act.

@AdMentemThomae They think they are being common-sense realists. To a Suarezian, an essence doesn't 'exist' at all until it's actualized, so they claim a real distinction is just a mental fiction. But then they can't explain how a creature stays finite without collapsing into Pantheism.
