Yesterday, on The National Debate with Madhav on Times Now, I pointed out that, in the past, it was not even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but Sonia Gandhi who solely called the shots in the appointment of Election Commissioners of India.
Today, the selection panel includes the Prime Minister, a Union Cabinet Minister, and the Leader of the Opposition, making the process more transparent and inclusive.
The Opposition's objection to the removal of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) from the selection panel is misplaced. The CJI's inclusion was part of an interim arrangement laid down by the Supreme Court in its judgment in Anoop Baranwal v. Union of India, which provided for a temporary selection panel until Parliament enacted a law specifying the composition of the final selection committee.
The Congress is clearly aghast that Sonia Gandhi no longer calls the shots in the selection of Election Commissioners.

Yesterday, on The National Debate with Madhav on Times Now, I clarified that Section 16 of the 2023 Act protects the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners from civil and criminal proceedings for acts, words, or conduct connected with the discharge of their official duties.
The purpose of this provision is to protect them from potentially retaliatory cases and malicious prosecution while they perform their constitutional responsibilities, as we have seen in the case of the TMC, which has pursued legal action against its political opponents, including public servants discharging their official duties.
I also clarified that the Opposition retains the constitutional route of seeking the removal of the Chief Election Commissioner through impeachment on the grounds of proved misbehaviour or incapacity.

Yesterday, on The National Debate with Madhav on Times Now, I exposed Congress’s misleading narrative against the Election Commission of India and other constitutional bodies.
Much like Rahul Gandhi’s earlier “Hydrogen Bomb” press conference, which relied on a report by Prof. Sanjay Kumar that was later retracted, this controversy, too, was bound to fall flat once the three Election Commissioners came on record to clarify that dissent is a normal part of the deliberative process.
And that is exactly what happened today. All three Election Commissioners came on record to clarify the matter, putting an end to the confusion and laying the controversy to rest.

Today evening on NewsX, I exposed how the entire ECI controversy was built on an unverified journalistic report, much like Rahul Gandhi’s “Hydrogen Bomb” press conference, which relied on a false report by Prof. Sanjay Kumar, who later apologised.
The controversy has now been put to rest following the meeting of all three Election Commissioners and the subsequent press note.
Facts matter. Narratives built on unverified reports cannot stand the test of scrutiny.
