The mandate of the Equalisation Fund, as stipulated in Article 204(2)
of the Constitution of Kenya 2010,is to provide basic services to marginalization areas.
Today, the Commission on Revenue Allocation (CRA), the Senate, and key stakeholders held a consultative meeting on policies identifying marginalized areas and their implementation status. CRA has so far developed two policies on identifying marginalised areas for sharing the Equalisation Fund. The 1st Policy (2013) identified 14 marginalised counties, while 2nd Policy (2018) identified marginalised areas in 34 counties.

CRA today met with Governors & county officials from the 14 counties identified as marginalised under the 1st #MarginalisationPolicy. This is part of the ongoing review of the Policy that sets the criteria for identifying marginalised areas for sharing #EqualisationFund monies.
