When Paul stood on Mars Hill in Athens, he preached to skeptics, critics, and "sophisticated eggheads."
He began with their spiritual hunger and pointed them to Jesus—even quoting pagan poets to build bridges.
Many churches today adopt this "Mars Hill philosophy" to connect with postmodern seekers.
But are we missing something crucial?
Are we to minister as those IN the world? Absolutely—that's Jesus's own prayer for His followers (John 17:14-16).
But must we minister as those OF the world? Absolutely not.
We must relate to the world but not compromise biblical essentials for the church.
There's a vital difference between engagement and compromise.
Nowhere in Acts or the Epistles do we see a church called to provide a subculture for unbelievers.
The lost don't need to find at church a world that's like their world.
Paul's urgent charge to Timothy: "Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season" (2 Timothy 4:1-2).
This command is for the speaker, not the hearer.
Before adopting any ministry philosophy, ask yourself:
- Can I support this change from Scripture?
- Am I looking at Mars Hill (Acts 17) while ignoring Acts 2:42?
Instead of searching for justification in the Bible, search for direction from the biblical text.
When you find it... follow it.
Whether you're considering emerging church strategies or any ministry approach—be discerning.
"That's you. That's me. That's every elder who teaches. That's all who are called to stand and deliver."
Let Scripture guide your methods, not culture.
Make straight the path of the Lord

For those who don't know what these mean:
1. Non-necessity of the sacraments:
The belief that baptism and communion are optional extras with no real spiritual significance.
Scripture disagrees. Jesus instituted both. The early church practiced both consistently.
2. Hypergrace / Antinomianism:
Hypergrace teaches that grace covers future sins without repentance or obedience.
Antinomianism takes it further say that the moral law has no binding authority on the believer.
3. Doctrinal immaturity of the apostles
The claim that the apostles, the men Jesus personally trained and the Holy Spirit personally inspired did not fully understand what they were teaching.
This is not a small claim.
It is an attack on the authority of the New Testament itself.
4. Dissuasion of conciliar theology:
Rejecting the conclusions of the early church councils (Nicaea, Chalcedon, Constantinople) where the church carefully defined the Trinity, the nature of Christ, and core doctrine.
To dismiss these is to dismiss centuries of Spirit-guided theological work.
5. Neo-Marcionism:
Marcion was a second century heretic who rejected the Old Testament entirely and believed the God of the Old Testament was different from the God of the New.
Neo-Marcionism is a modern version of the same error.
It produces a Christianity with no roots and no continuity with Israel's God.
6. Pelagianism:
The belief that human beings can choose God and live righteously by their own natural will without the necessity of divine grace.
The church condemned this in the fifth century.
It is still heresy.
7. Modalism:
The denial of the Trinity.
Modalism teaches that Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are not three distinct persons but three modes or masks of one person.
This contradicts Matthew 3:16-17 alone where all three persons are simultaneously present and distinct at the baptism of Jesus.
Every single one of these errors has a name because the church has faced them before.
They are not new ideas.
They are old heresies wearing new clothe
And Jude 1:3 is still the instruction.
Earnestly contend for the faith once delivered to the saints.
Not the faith being invented today.
The faith once delivered.
@YusufAsunmogejo@Afolayantimile2 By history there is no ground for comparison. Muhammad first is not qualified to be called a prophet or a servant of God either from spiritual or moral perspectives. He failed woefully in all.
@SamuelAyodele_T@Thatnsukkaboy_ The sad thing is that his followers are so blinded to this obvious miscalculation and lies .. Mohammad still remains the greatest mistake of humanity after the fall
Proper bible study would have saved us from this Syncretism.
Don't just sing, diligently study your bible.
Don't just pray , diligently study your bible.
1Timothy 4:13 is a command not a suggestion
Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine.
"My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations."
This is part of the reason it seems we pray a lot.
Plus, since God has no problem with the language in which prayers are made, we pray all kinds of prayer, and we pray, both with our spirit & with our understanding, per 1Cor14:15.

You stay in Lagos Protesting “Americans leave us alone”?
Please, come to the North and say that with your full chest. While you’re busy protesting in Lagos for camera angles, some of us are attending burials, not photo ops. This isn’t a movie set, it’s real life soaked in blood and tears. If you really want to ‘stand for truth,’ come where the bullets are being fired.

You cannot pit the words of an apostle against the one who revealed it to him. If you undermine the authority of Paul, you undermine the authority of Christ & scripture.
