Today, we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.
The principal biblical references to Mary’s sorrows are in Luke 2:35 and John 19:26-27. The Lucan passage is Simeon’s prediction about a sword piercing Mary’s soul;
the Johannine passage relates Jesus’ words from the cross to Mary and to the beloved disciple.
The Seven Sorrows of Mary:
The prophecy of Simeon.
The flight into Egypt.
The loss of the Child Jesus in the temple.
The meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way of the Cross.
Today, we celebrate the feast of the Holy Name of Mary.
The Feast of the Most Holy Name of the Blessed Virgin Mary is an optional memorial celebrated in the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church on 12 September. It has been a universal Roman Rite feast since 1684
when Pope Innocent XI included it in the General Roman Calendar to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Vienna in 1683. It was removed from the Church calendar in the liturgical reform following Vatican II but restored by Pope John Paul II in 2002
Today, we celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Scripture does not give an account of Mary’s birth. However, the apocryphal Protoevangelium of James fills in the gap. This work has no historical value, but it does reflect the development of Christian piety.
According to this account, Anna and Joachim are infertile but pray for a child. They receive the promise of a child who will advance God’s plan of salvation for the world. Like many biblical counterparts, stresses the special presence of God in Mary’s life from the beginning.
Santísimo Rosario Parish also known as the UST Chapel will celebrate the Feast of Nuestra Señora del Santísimo Rosario de la Universidad de Santo Tomás on October 2, 2022.
Fr. Paul Reagan Talavera, O.P., the Parish Priest, is inviting everyone to come and be part of the festivities. Plenary indulgence may be obtained for those who will visit the UST Parish this year until March 21, 2023.
Today, we celebrate the feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The feast is a logical follow-up to the Assumption, and is now celebrated on the octave day of that feast.
In Pius XII's 1954 encyclical to the Queen of Heaven, he points out that Mary deserves the title because she is the Mother of God, and because she is closely associated as the New Eve with Jesus’ redemptive work.

This holy day commemorates the Virgin Mary's bodily ascension to heaven at the end of her life. On November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII proclamated the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which the Church celebrates every year on August 15 💙
