🌎🇨🇻 Lionel Messi on Cape Verde: “Some people might underestimate certain teams… but we knew this was NEVER going to be an easy match”.
“That’s what makes this World Cup so special. Everything is incredibly close, and every single game is extremely difficult”.
🚨🇦🇷 Diego Simeone speaks about Julián Álvarez to ESPN for the first time since he left: “He’s a fantastic player. The best player we have at Atlético. I can only speak well about Julián. He’s extraordinary and to find a player like him is very difficult”.
“His future? Well… that’s his next game with Argentina! He should focus on that. Things will get resolved, as always in life”. 🕷️
🚨 Atlético Madrid statement to @diarioas.
“There is no amount of money for which Barça can buy Julián Álvarez. He will not be transferred to Barcelona”.
“Either they pay the release clause for €500m or there is no deal”.
Funny thing is, the Lionel Messi I know would personally ask Scaloni to bench him against Jordan since Argentina have already qualified for the knockout stage 😂
Sub-Saharan Africa is the most aid-dependent region globally. On average, aid accounted for about 3% of GDP in 2024—well above other regions, making the current drop in aid especially consequential. https://t.co/8WUovVFE38
A statement by Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and myself reads:
“This World Cup is a powerful reminder that while our borders may divide us geographically, our aspirations, our history and our future successes bind us together as one people.
“At the Africa Prosperity Network, we believe that Africa’s greatest victories will come when we learn to see one another not as rivals, but as brothers and sisters pursuing a shared destiny. The football pitch offers us an opportunity to demonstrate that spirit of unity, solidarity and mutual support.
“May every African team compete with courage, pride and excellence. May they inspire a new generation of Africans to believe in what is possible when talent, determination and unity come together.
“And, when one African team scores, let Africa celebrate. When one African team advances, let Africa rejoice. For a victory for one is a victory for all.
“May the best African team bring the World Cup trophy home to Africa for the very first time.”

Dr. Johnson Pandit Asiama, Governor of the Bank of Ghana, today, 1 June 2026, told the Ghana-UK Investment Summit that his tenure has been defined by a shift to consultative leadership, an approach he says is delivering results for the institution.
Speaking in London, @DrJPAsiama said his time away from the Bank, during which he engaged with public discourse and listened to criticism of the institution, directly shaped his leadership strategy.
“One of the key changes we introduced when I assumed office was a consultative approach to leadership. Our aim is to demystify the central bank,” he said.
Dr. Asiama noted that active stakeholder engagement has enabled more practical and timely solutions. As an example, he pointed to the Bank’s swift action to resolve payment challenges faced by social media influencers, underscoring the value of inclusive policymaking.
He described the consultative model as essential to improving policy outcomes, stating that meaningful engagement strengthens decision-making and builds public trust in the central bank.
