Around two weeks ago, some here said the character of Jesus is different from that of the Old Testament God.

But is that true? We see that it is not. Two cardinal attributes define God in the OT:

Justice and Mercy

So, every time the OT God fiercely judged, He also provided underserved mercy to bring humans back to Him after rebellion.

So, when Adam fell and was judged dead, God gave a promise of the seed of the woman.

When the world fell into sin during Noah's time, God destroyed with flood but saved a remnant with the Ark.

That Ark was pointing to Christ.

When God judged the unbelieving Israelites in the wilderness, He gave them a captain, Joshua, to lead them to the Promised Land.

Joshua was pointing to Christ, the captain of our salvation.

When the Israelites rebelled against God during the times of the judges, He would destroy them but then raise a judge to deliver them.

When God destroyed Jerusalem for her idolatry and sent them to captivity, He assured Jeremiah by oath that they would return one day and be established again.

We can go on and on. But justice and mercy are the characters of God.

And that is what we see in Jesus! The torture, suffering, and death that Jesus died was for us.

The God who destroyed Sodom for its sin destroyed us for our sins in Christ!

But after judgment, He now brought mercy by raising Jesus from the dead with us, and now we have peace with God:

1 Peter 1:3

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great MERCY that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead."

Can you see that? The characters of God and Christ are the same.

That was why Jesus confidently said He would do the will of the Father alone.

It aligned with His nature. And that justice is still in Christ forever.

That is why He will come back and wrought unspeakable destruction on the world in judgment, as seen in Revelations 19:11:

"Then I saw heaven opened, and a white horse was standing there. Its rider was named Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war."

Jesus will make war. An agonizing devastating war that the world will cry out in pain and trouble.

Then He will reveal the New Jerusalem where the saint will be in peace forever.

His mercy shows up again, for the last time. So the Bible says, "His Mercy endureth forever."

This is just to address those who say the character of the OT God is evil and that of Jesus "Is the true revelation of God."

It is a lie. Father and Jesus are One.
