Meet Caroline Khasoa, @adkhasoa an astute Advocate of the High Court and land governance specialist with over twenty years of dedicated leadership in legal reform.

Recently named among the prestigious 2026 Courtroom Mail 100 most influential African female lawyers, she is a force for institutional integrity whose career has been defined by an uncompromising fight for transparency.

For her, the battle for justice goes beyond casework; it is an unyielding crusade against institutional rot. She has consistently stood as an unflinching anti-corruption champion, staring down the systemic decay that threatens public faith in the legal system.

True judicial accountability, in her view, cannot exist while corruption lingers in any manifestation. It demands rigorous scrutiny that reaches from the highest courtroom bench down to internal human resource practices, recruitment protocols, and performance auditing.

By holding every tier of the legal ecosystem to strict ethical standards, she continues to defend the sanctity of public land management, protect the vulnerable, and reclaim the rule of law from the shadows of impunity.

This evening we sat with our Jubilee Market team in another Market - Milimani focus-group engagement.

I went, together with Ms. Beatrice Amondi, to listen.

The traders spoke about blocked drainage, unusable toilets, uncollected garbage, leaking roofs, flooding, congestion, inadequate lighting, insecurity and a market crying out for modernisation.

But one complaint stood above the rest: high and sometimes overlapping taxation by the County Government of Kisumu, while basic services remain inadequate.

That raises a fundamental question of governance: if traders faithfully contribute revenue, what level of service should they reasonably expect in return?

Jubilee also faces a deeper economic challenge. Traders are competing with supermarkets while carrying debt, operating in deteriorating infrastructure and paying additional costs for security and other services that functioning urban management should provide.

Through Kisumu RISE - Rescue, Inclusion, Safety and Economic Renewal - we are documenting these issues market by market and converting them into a practical agenda for action.

These engagements are also shaping the public-service priorities behind my Kisumu Central candidature: accountable revenue, modern markets, safer businesses and an economy that allows small enterprises to grow.

My support for President William Samoei Ruto similarly includes constructive engagement with the National Government to connect investment and economic opportunity directly to ordinary traders.

Today, my daughter, Lucia Nyamori, graduates from USIU with a Bachelor of Arts in Animation, with a concentration in Game Development.

Next month, God willing, I will watch her graduate again from CUEA with a degree in International Relations.

Two degrees. Two very different disciplines. Pursued concurrently.

As her father, my heart is overflowing.

But Lucia, today I celebrate more than the certificates. I celebrate the woman who earned them.

I have watched the pressure, the sacrifices, the long days and the determination to keep going. There was a time when I held your little hand and tried to show you the way. Today, I look at the young woman you have become and realise that increasingly, I am the one learning from you.

So allow your father to leave you with one lifelong instruction:

Read, Lucia. Read.

Read widely. Read deeply. Read history, literature, philosophy, science, politics, economics and the stories of people very different from you. Read people you agree with - and especially those you do not.

Your degrees may open doors. Reading will keep opening your mind.

Never become so educated that you stop learning, or so successful that you become unteachable.

Do not spend your life competing with others. Compete with yesterday’s Lucia. Know more tomorrow. Think deeper tomorrow. Be kinder tomorrow. Become wiser tomorrow.

Animation and Game Development teaches you to imagine worlds that do not yet exist.

International Relations teaches you to understand the world that already exists.

Spend your life doing both: understand the world deeply, and never lose the courage to imagine it better.
