My name is Zarema, and I am a composer. I have the privilege of being one of the many critical storytellers, shaping how audiences feel, react, and interpret the music that soundtracks our lives.
Some of my recent songs were written about refugee children based on their true stories, in the hopes of bringing more attention to their plight and inspiring empathy and compassion for their worthy cause.
I’m joining the Recording Academy's @grammys, @songcompwing to #SupportTodaysComposers and celebrate the creativity and contributions composers bring to today’s musical landscape. Join me in supporting today’s composers.

I wrote “Child’s Prayer”, deeply moved by a child’s tragedy, losing her leg and losing her mother in conflict.
Growing up as part of a marginalized minority, routinely treated with oppression, injustice, and humiliation, made me feel very vulnerable and sensitive to the many cruel and unjust ways other people are sometimes treated, especially children. I could never stand to see any child suffer indignities or be made to feel inferior or insignificant based on their race, religion, or country of origin.
“Mama, please tell the angels in heaven
To save all the children God’s given
When I look up to the stars
I know you’re gone, but you’re always in my heart”
I wrote these lyrics about a young orphaned refugee girl who believes that her mother lives up in the stars, after she lost her mother in conflict.
I’m so grateful to the outstanding Royal Philharmonic Orchestra for embracing this project and providing their beautiful and deeply moving performance.
So gracious of Kitt Wakeley @kittwakeley to believe in this song and make this happen.
Today I want to share with you a very special project for me: A song I wrote, called “Child’s Prayer”, produced by Kitt Wakeley, in collaboration with other amazing musicians.
Instrumentals were recorded by The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London!!! I still can’t believe it!
This song was inspired by a documentary I worked on a few years ago about a refugee child who had lost her mother in an air strike and had suffered amputation of one of her legs.
I dedicated this song to all refugee children, especially those orphaned or injured in wars. It’s available for streaming today!
Having lost a close relative to Covid, the emotional music video for the song “See You Again” sung by Wiz Khalifa feat. Charlie Puth really resonated with me. I contacted @marcklasfeld who directed that video and was delighted when he generously agreed to do my video!
